“Very nearly a 5”

Just stayed there this week. The hotel is in a beautiful location. They maybe just be resting on their laurels a little because of the view. It is a 4 star hotel but could be doing with a little refurbishment. Our room was lovely with a gorgeous view but there was one strip of wallpaper that was loose, it would not take much to stick it back down. There was a bit of moss and a few weeds growing on the balcony, this also could not take much to sort out. In the restaurant, there was a couple of lamps with broken or burnt out bulbs, again would not take much to replace them. There was a few webs in some lights and ceiling as well, having someone go through the hotel and writing everything down and then sending in cleaning staff and maybe a handyman and everything would be better. I also think they should offer some treatments in the Spa rather than just pool, Jacuzzi, steam room, etc.

On our first night, we arrived at the bar at about half nine and asked for snacks but was told the kitchen was closed, again an easy fix. Was not looking for gourmet meal but someone who was able to make a toasted sandwich would do. We used the restaurant on the second night and although our meal was nice it was not great. We ordered medium steaks, they came well done. They tasted fine so rather than send them back we ate them but told the waitress they were overcooked, did not expect anything off but just wanted them to know to tell the chef. She was very apologetic and asked if we wished to speak to the manager. We said no, she told him and he gave us a free drink to make up for it. We ordered chocolate mousse with vanilla ice cream for pudding. We waited and waited and waited. After 40 minutes or so the waiter arrived with doughnuts and ice cream. We told him it was the wrong order, he apologised and took them away. After another 15 minutes our mousse turned up, got to say it was worth the wait. It was sublime. Again the manager was told by the waiter and they took the mousse off our bill to make up for the time we spent waiting on it. Cannot fault the serving staff or the manager as all very courteous and friendly. Just a few tweaks and it would have been perfect.

Don't know that I would go back there, not so much because of the hotel but as there is nothing other than a cruise around the loch to do. We knew this before we went so was not expecting anything but now we have done it I don't think we would be rushing to go back. We wanted quiet and that is what we got.

After booking this hotel as a special treat for the other half, we had very high expectations as we have never stayed in a 4* before. To be honest you can tell that this hotel was once lovely but unfortunately it has been left to run down with big chips in all the furniture, rotting wood on balcony, questionable marks on the walls and floor and covered in cobwebs!

From now on I will be sticking to low budget hotels as at least I know they will be clean!!!

We had 4 double rooms booked for one night, it was a double birthday celebration on Saturday 29th. We had been staying further north and planned to stay here on our way back to Yorkshire. On Friday night, we had a missed call from the hotel, we called then back to be told that there had been an accident the previous night and 5 rooms had been flooded and were no longer available. 'Worry not' said the hotel, we have booked you into a B and B two miles down the road, we will taxi you all to and from and make sure you have a great time. Not ideal but, they were showing the right attitude. We arrived at the hotel and were greeted by a very attentive receptionist who promptly wheeled out a very apologetic manager. Everything was superbly handled until we got to the restaurant and received our food. One dish was cold and over cooked, all the steaks were over cooked, balsamic Tomatos were missing the balsamic, we had to add our own. No steak butter. We ordered, as a treat the chateaux steak, advertised at 22oz. It arrived and will not of been more than 11oz. In fairness they did look surprised and offered to send the second half but it would take 20min......moment lost....I am afraid. The whole experience in the restaurant was so disappointing. The deputy restaurant manager really tried to rescue the situation but the kitchen is the problem. They are simply not worthy of any acclaim, stars, rosettes etc. They are letting the restuarant staff down, you could see why they were so frustrated. GET YOUR KITCHEN SORTED.
The hotel is in the most beauitful location however the hotel is dark, dirty and dated and seriously needs a massive overall. It seems totally focused on weddings.
We have been invited back for a free night B&B, we will not return.
There are so many other hotels to stay at, maybe better price and certainly better food, do not waste you're hard earned money.

Room Tip: Don't choose this hotel.

I booked a table for my first wedding anniversary & did so in person, my parents then decided to come along too. Table was fine with a good view. The place lacked atmosphere & had lots of waiters cleaning cutlery next to us & lighting candles. Staff were very young & no direction from the head. We ordered our main courses & waited over 50 minutes to arrive in a restaurant that was quiet. The food was ok, small portions, I had pork & wondered if they forgot the potatoes? Steak looked nice but for £25 would of expected more trimmings with it. The service was again very slow as we waited at least 40 minutes for dessert, we didn't order coffee as decided would take too long. The restaurant was cold as all the windows were open so we did ask for the ones next to us to be closed but later found out the reason they were open was due to the smoke that filled the restaurant from the kitchen. I was really disappointed that reception noted down this was our first wedding anniversary & no one acknowledge this. I could also see dust were restaurant not cleaned well. This restaurant definitly gets its customers based on view & charges you for this. I'm sad to say I won't be back.

Just got back from a nights stay. The hotel and location was great but it was difficult to sleep on a 'double bed' made up of two single beds. Made for a very uncomfortable sleep. For the money paid I found this very poor. The fact it was two single beds put together also meant the bed squeaked anytime there was any movement. Would recommend the hotel but if I stayed again I'd insist on an actual double bed.

Great room, loved the design and the fact the bed faced an awesome view! Had breakfast on our balcony overlooking the loch. Short walk down the beach into Luss....great pub there called the Loch Lomand Arms. Resturant was good also, also steak wasnt quite as rare as we wanted. Great place to chill out and explore. Good pool also, great after a long day cycling!

Room Tip: I think most rooms have a great views, we were on the top floor which meant a really good view.
