Drimsynie Estate Holiday Village
Reviewed June 20, 2011

Bit of a mixed bag. The restaurant food was excellent as was the service generally. The bed in our room was comfortable and we had 3 good nights sleep. Fantastic views across Loch Goil.

However, the room decor and furnishings were 'tired' and cleanliness was poor, e.g we had a four poster bed with a thick layer of dust on top. The bathroom only had a net curtain, so no room for modesty when the light was on ! A proper curtain would be nice. The shaver point was on the wall opposite the mirror ! In this room you couldn't watch tv in bed, but I don't think all the rooms were like that. Breakfast was in Rob Roys Bar and not the restaurant as mentioned in the room information - felt more like a cafe than a hotel.

We came to the conclusion that the main business here is the holiday homes park (they have several others across the Cowel peninsula) and the hotel has been left as an afterthought. A shame as there is potential for something much better. The infiormation pack provided on arrival includes an invitation to go and look at some holiday homes - this had echoes of timeshare selling.

Would we stay again ? probably not, but if you are looking for peace and quiet away from it all, it's OK for a short stay. Mobile phone and tv reception in this area is not good. This didn't bother us, but beware if it is important to you.

Room Tip: Insist on a room with views over the loch

Hi,
I'm really glad you liked the food and you found the service excellent. We really take pride in providing a great atmosphere for our guests.
However, I'm sorry you were a bit unhappy with the room.
I really appreciate you taking the time to write your thoughts on here because we can take action and make things better.
If you would be kind enough to email and let me know which room you stayed in (or your name so I can find out), I will personally visit the room and make the necessary changes.
On another note, we definately don't sell timeshare and I'm concerned it's coming across that way.
We do find our holidaymakers are interested in having the information on caravans for sale, so I would be delighted with any suggestions in delivering this message in a more appropriate manner.
My email is : jenny.mccann@argyllholidays.com. Please drop me a line.

We hadn't read the previous reviews of this holiday park prior to visiting and glad we hadn't as went with no pre-conceived ideas about this accommodation. From the drive down the 6 mile access road from the main road we realised what a stunning setting this holiday park has. We were in a Kingfisher Superior caravan and although not set on the Loch it was within easy walking distance and set away from the main centre which suited us. The caravan was the best equipped we have ever stayed in, immaculate and spacious with all the facilities you would require. The park was fairly quiet and provided an extremely relaxing break in a tranquil setting. We visited the Rob Roy Lounge for both a meal and drinks and found all staff to be very efficient and polite with great service. We also visited the Shore House Inn in the village for an evening meal which was excellent with stunning views of the loch from the dining room. We took advantage of the grocery pack finding it a helpful starter and the Costcutter on site provided everything else required. The park is an ideal base for exploring the surrounding area and even the typical wet weather could not spoil an enjoyable holiday!

Had a girls weekend in May and stayed four nights in a 3 bedroom apartment in Lochgoilhead, the house was to a very high standard with all the amenities we required. The scenery was absolutely lovely and we made the most of that with a walk everyday on the planned routes at night we went to the local pub where there was entertainment on then another night we went to Drymsynie Hotel where they also had a good band on and staff were very friendly. There seemed to be something for everyone here and I would definitely recommend this holiday to anyone, looking forward to going back again sometime soon.

Excelent scenery lovely setting, found the staff very helpful at the hotel.
only drawback was the food we were offerd the same menu on both nights of our stay, the food on the first night we could not fault ,after that it wennt downhill the porrage looked as if it had been poured into hot water and poured into the bowl without being cooked the scrambled egg was no better.

Spent 3 nights in a Salisbury caravan at Drimsynie and thoroughly enjoyed it. We had chosen a pet-free van and ended up in Riverside 10. My cousin and his family were in Riverside 11. Both caravans were obviously very new with us possibly being one of the first few to use them. Whilst we didn’t have a loch view we weren’t disappointed with the location on the site.

The kitchen was very well equipped and the shower in the bathroom was amazing! A power shower to beat many a hotel … The beds were very comfortable and there was plenty of room for clothes/cases etc in the very modern wardrobes and drawers.

For 3 nights over Easter (Friday to Sunday inclusive) the accommodation cost £291 plus £15 energy charge and an optional £75 for a leisure pass. We opted for the leisure pass which, as there were children in our parties, was worth it. With 4 people in each van, the cost per person worked out at £95.25 each for a 3 night stay with use of all the leisure facilities. Bargain!

The estate boasts a swimming pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, 9-hole golf course, fantastic views of the loch, mini-market, laundry, some lovely walks, function room (used for karaoke and race nights etc etc), indoor bowling alley, ice-skating rink and childrens play area. Something for everyone!!

In the area there are cruisers for hire – which are well worth trying. We paid £60 for 3 hours for a small cruiser which accomodated 6 people. On the loch we saw porpoises swimming around, seals and gannets. Truly amazing – and definitely worth the money.

We will all definitely return to Drimsynie, especially as our cousin owns a fabulous lodge in the grounds of the estate.

We,ve just returned from Drimsynie and all i can say what a fantastic place it just gets better and better we stayed in a caravan this time and WOW recently renewed its home from home with lovely views ,everything brand new in it .We have stayed in 0sprey lodges before they are just as nice.Craig Nobes the gym +activites guy is just great really goes out of his way to help and has has great stuff for the kids eg.pond dipping, nature trails. We only had one complaint the last two times we,ve been and that was that there was no disabled accsess into the games room +function hall, but lo and behold when we arrived up this time 2 disabled ramps have been built so a massive thankyou for that.We would definatly recommend this place to young +old .Great swim pool, jacuzzi, steam room ,fitness room, skating rink. All in all a fantastic place.

After reading through the reviews here I cant believe them, we stayed at the hotel a number of times on familly holidays. Some kids prefer going abroad of some where with alot more entertainment, but for me and my brother we couldn't have asked for anything more as kids. We always had a fantastic time. I remember on our first stay we were staying in the annex building which at the time was unsuitable, so the hotel staff being helpful as I have always known them to be, relocated us to another part of the hotel. I will hopefully be booking a stay later on this year! Thank you to all the staff for such fond memories!
