“poor selection of local ales and whisky”
Reviewed April 4, 2010

Real fire in bar, but that is the saving grace! 70's decor (which in some bits is quite good!), unhappy barmaid although clean and modern toilets hurrah!

Kronenburg, Strongbow, Fosters, McEwans, John Smiths and Guinness on tap No real ales

Poor whisky selection

1 lagavuilin and 1 soda water and lime - £3.20

Food served 12 - 2.15 then 5 - 8:30pm

GOIL1, Manager at The Goil Inn, responded to this review, October 1, 2010
Very quick response:

Selection of 22 malts in our bar !! We have no real ales at the moment but are working to bring this up to date and yes our decor does need updating also waiting on a full refurb of the hotel hopefully in the coming couple of years.

We have just returned from a five day stay at the Lochgoilhead Hotel and would recommend it as a great value for money hotel.
The room was modern and kept spotlessly clean with wonderful views over the loch. The staff and Manageress were friendly and helpfull. The home cooked breakfast was just the thing to set you up for the day and the food on an evening was honest home cooked fare, served in either the bar or the restraunt. The free use of the pool sauna and jacuzzi was an added bonus. My wife had a half day pamper session at the beauty parlour and said she would recommend it as the beautician was the friendliest she had ever met and made her relax immediately.
We learned that the hotel is due to go through a refurbishment this winter and unfortunatley the manageress is leaving.
We will be returning next year to see how it has gone.
Would recommend this hotel for those looking for a value for money get away from it all break.

For £35pp BB you can`t go wrong with this one.
Stayed in the Lochgoilhead hotel in a loch view room,
clean, adequate size and peaceful. Maybe a little strange that their is no real reception but the friendly barstaff make up for that.
Serving properly cooked breakfast in the restaurant room overlooking the loch and the mainstreet.
just around the corner a lovely restaurant/bar The Shore Inn,
which is renowned for its freshly prepared food, a mile further at Drimsynie holiday park, all activities and fun right their.
Everyone is really friendly and relaxed their, a real holiday feel,
one of the few places where families, young and old, all find a
spot to enjoy themselves. From hillwalkers to partyanimals, you will love it.

  • Liked — relaxed atmosphere and stunning surroundings
  • Disliked — sauna was not hot enough (door did not close properly)
