We (grandparents, parents and children) had a wonderful three days in a spacious house with a stunning view of Loch Goil. We were lucky enough to have great sunshine too. The house was stacked with generous supplies of everything needed and the excellent New Zealand wine was a lovely gesture; we felt very welcome. The only point off is for cleanliness.
Just returned from a week in cobbler view bungalow Loch Goil with two very young grandchildren the bungalow was very spacious and warm and the views from the conservatory or playroom depending on whose eyes you were looking from were tremendous. The bungalow had all the amenities needed for a family break great location secluded but within easy access to leisure facilities. On arrival the owner had left a bottle of wine which was much appreciated after along journey with the little ones.
Would recommend cobbler view to anyone thinking of having a holiday in Loch Goil.
We are experienced self caterers, in Scotland and elsewhere. The views of the loch and mountains from the sun lounge from the property are second to none. The central heating was excellent, the shower in the bathroom worked well, there was total peace and quiet, apart from the odd motor boat on the loch during the day and we slept like babies, seals were visible on the loch, a peregrine falcon (being mobbed by several crows) swept through the garden, and the house was well cleaned. We made good use of Netflix too.
We have rated the rental as a 3 due several shortfalls, listed below, which could be easily remedied. To us it appeared that not too much time and effort had been given to making the place home-from-home for renters. With attention to these points this place could easily be a 5, and a place that we would return to regularly.
One panel in the sun lounge was blown (misted) and the edging of the bungalow wall around the French doors into it was bare cement (never painted) with white sealant daubed around it, making this feel like a sun porch rather than a conservatory. From one settee in the sun lounge the near view was a pile of breeze blocks and broken slabs, and from the other two heaps of earth, some broken slabs and a dingy covered with an algae-encrusted tarpaulin (and there was room for this out of sight just around the corner at the gable end of the bungalow).
The master bedroom smelled faintly musty, but there was a mattress laid on the carpeted floor under the bed. One of the built-in wardrobes was locked with an unsightly chain and padlock and the bottom half of the otherwise taken up by a large TV set, so dresses could not be hung there. When we tried to do this in a built-in wardrobe in one of the other bedrooms we found a large suitcase in there, so same problem. The radiator in the en-suite shower room did not work (it looked to have been recently directly plumbed in (valves removed) but possibly had never had the air bled out).
It looks as if new skirting boards were put into the property when the new wooden floors were laid, but these skirtings have never been varnished and didn't match the rest of the woodwork. Around the hearth in the living room quadrant dowelling had been placed as edging, but had also never been varnished and was stained with ash from the fire. The fire was not to be used, and the floor-level grate was covered with a green supermarket bag held in place with two fir cones, which was most unsightly (in fact my wife had noticed the open fireplace from the and took with us a Chinese fan to mask it). Whoever painted the walls daubed emulsion paint onto doors, woodwork, window frames and electrical sockets, and never bothered to wipe the daubs off.
In the bathroom the wire soap rack by the sink was rusted. This was attached to wall by suction pads so could easily be replaced.
These shortfalls gave the bungalow a rather uncared-for, holiday-home feel, which was a great shame.
Enjoyed an excellent stay in Scotland. The house is a fantastic base with stunning scenery all around it. Beautiful views from every window and the conservatory. I would definitely stay again.
