“Another great stay - Dog Friendly!”
Reviewed October 22, 2013

Another excellent night away at the Bridge of Lochay ... cant wait for New Year. Food superb as always - thanks Rob & Co! Danielle and Becky attentative as always. (I left my straighteners - will get them at New Year lol!) We took our four and a half month old pup Sam with us. . Dont understand previous comments regarding not being dog friendly. Yes we ate in the bar which is always clean and tidy.... as dog owners we totally respect that not everyone is a dog lover so it didnt bother us if people dont want to eat with dogs around. And the pup was in our room so what is the issue here? There were two other couples there with dogs and they didnt mind either.

A part of 4 spent the night whilst undertaking the Rob Roy Way. The room was good as was the dining area. The evening meal was excellent but we were a little disappointed with the breakfast - more could have been done here.

Room Tip: Avoid above bar area as can be noisy.

I have never written a review before but felt I had to express how wonderful this hotel is, the food was fantastic, the accommodation is first class....... But the thing that made our stay was the amazing staff, very very cheery and made us feel very welcome from the very first minute..... We will be going back to this gem often ...... Thanks to them all.

Room Tip: Rooms are large and very comfortable, all very quiet and relaxing

If you, like us, like to take your dog on holiday with you, then this is not the place for you or your dog.
Despite finding this hotel on a dog friendly website, phoning to confirm their dog friendly policy and reading the reviews, I'm afraid that this hotel did not deliver on any front.

The dog was allowed in the room only and a small charmless back bar area.
We ate here one night but found the food average and the waitress disinterested.

We raised these issues with the owner who was equally disinterested.

On a positive note the village of Killin is a short walk and there are lots of nice bars that welcome dogs.

We felt more like an inconvenience to, rather than, guests of the hotel.

We are very sorry that your stay with us did not meet your expectations.

We have a great many regular repeat guests who bring their dogs with them and this is the first time that someone commented in this way about their stay. We take a great pride in what we do here at The Bridge of Lochay Hotel, we are most definitely a dog friendly establishment but we are also a guest friendly establishment and as such we have quite clear guidelines as to where dogs can be in order that all our guests (dog lovers and others) may enjoy their experience.
We take care to make sure that the information on our website and the details we put in our email confirmations ensure that guests are fully aware what to expect when they arrive to avoid disappointment. Our bar area is very popular and has frequently been described as cosy and welcoming – therefore we cannot agree with your observation that it is ‘charmless’.

Our food has a reputation as being one of the best places to eat in the surrounding area and our menu is varied and seasonal. Our Head Chef and team highly skilled and the produce carefully locally sourced. Our waiting staff are frequently praised for their caring ‘can do’ friendly approach.
As a small owner run establishment we also spend a great deal of time with our guests (whenever service allows) to get to know them , as a result many return more as friends than guests. We do listen carefully to the feedback of our guests and do not feel that your comments are justified although we are saddened that you did not enjoy your 3 night stay with us we do feel that your experience is not the norm.

Just back after having spent two nights at this hotel. Had a lovely time, Amanda and Bob the best hosts yet at any hotel we have stayed in, nothing too much trouble and made to feel so welcome. We had a lovely room at the back of the hotel(room 4) with views of the falls, you can hear the water running quite clearly.....nice. Food was fab both nights and a good breakfast to start the day, what more could you ask for. The rest of the staff were very friendly and we will definately be back. Thanks again for a lovely time.

Just back from a one night stay on an internet deal - had a lovely time. Sometimes you feel like a second class citizen handing over your voucher, but here we couldn't have been made feel more welcome. From the moment we checked in the staff were friendly, accommodating and professional. We were given Room 3 (to the front on the first floor, with an original feature fireplace wall and two single beds pushed together - not my first choice, but the beds were very comfortable and we slept well. The bathroom is clean and fresh and relatively newly fitted - tons of very hot water too. We've eaten in the restaurant on a few occasions and the food is always delicious, and this trip was no exception. I had the tomato soup, my partner the black pudding and poached egg to start, followed by the steak for him and a stuffed tomato dish that wasn't on the menu, but the very helpful receptionist/waitress/barmaid Danielle, who seemed to be everywhere at once, suggested along with a third option. Finding interesting and varied meals for Veggies is always a problem, but I've never eaten anything at the Bridge of Lochay that hasn't been delicious. My carnivorous other half said his steak was fabulous and perfectly cooked to order. Breakfast was very tasty too - the full works for him, and scrambled eggs for me - free range eggs from their own hens apparently - plus the usual buffet options - all served with a cheery smile and bit of banter. The hotel is not as smart as some, but it is clean, welcoming and with a warm friendly atmosphere that puts it at the top of table in Killin as far as we're concerned. We'll be back - hopefully very soon.

Room Tip: Rooms 4 or 5 apparently have the best views

The welcome and atmosphere are outstanding - like a family hotel vs. the typical faceless bland and 'cold' places you get so many of these days - the hotel is very nice with relatively modern rooms.
The staff could not do enough for me.
The food is probably the best in Killin, it's as though they've got a couple of Michelin Chefs chained up in the kitchen. The food was outstanding, juicy tender stakes you could build a house out of to.... I won't spoil the surprise.... suffice to say you have to got to a real Michelin star restaurant to get appreciably better. There are some unuque items on the menu that were well worth trying - for example iced souffle, sounds odd, but tastes exactly like ice cream and ultra fluffy sorbet. The presentation/plating up of the food was top-notch, with a lot of care taken.
If you are a foodie that values a great atmosphere there is no other choice worth considering; nothing comes close in Killin.

Room Tip: I asked for a room at the back and I like the noise from the adjacant river rapid which I thought wa...
