my wife & i just spent the last few days at this hotel, what a diffarence, compared to the last time,( 2002) a lot nicer place, food is very good though a bit pricey, but i suppose it is a touristy place, would reccomend this hotel if staying in this area.

Room Tip: try a river view

This was our second visit to Killin and this hotel. Since our last visit the hotel has been spruced up a bit with the new dining area and annex building but the core of the hotel hasn't been updated.

Our room was basic but had everything you'd need, the only thing that let the room down was the en-suite and in particular the very small shower. If you are over 5'5' you'd need to duck to use it.

We didn't sleep the best this visit (we were on a different floor than last time) as our neighbours were rather noisy and walls rather thin (we could hear them snoring)!

For the price we paid it was still really good value and you wouldn't expect more for it, if we're in the area again then we may return.

just returned from a two night stay in this hotel - this was our second visit and was every bit if not more enjoyable than the first. Food delicious, rooms comfortable and spotlessly clean. Staff very helpful and friendly. Reasonably priced menu and room prices. Our room was on third floor and had beautiful views - there is a lift. The setting of this hotel is quite beautiful. Excellent value - will certainly be back.

Room Tip: i would advise to book a room on the second or first floor purely for the views - i dont think you w...

Having been told how good the food was here, my partner and I stopped in for lunch. There was a choice of two menus, one a la carte and one at £9.95 for two courses. We liked the look of the dishes on the fixed price menu and I went for the 6oz ribeye steak, which was £3.75 extra. We were seated in the conservatory looking over the river, which is beautiful, but a little cold due to the external doors being opened after we sat down. We were the only people there at the time, so the atmosphere was a bit sombre; however, the girl that served us was very friendly and welcoming. The meal itself was fairly unremarkable. The steak had little flavour and was accompanied by bland frozen chips and wrinkled up peas. Fish was nice, but came with the same chips and wrinkly peas. Desserts looked wow, but were pretty average tastewise. With two coffees and soft drinks, our meal was nearly £35. I would like to go back for dinner and see if it lives up to the reputation I had heard about.

After looking at various reviews for this hotel on tripadvisor, my boyfriend and I were apprehensive but had already paid for the room. When we arrived the receptionist was very polite and helpful. We took the lift up to our room (very cool old school lift with the double gate things) unsure what to expect. We were in room 38 and were pleasantly surprised. Te room was clean and the furnishings were intact with no tears in the upholstery. The bathroom could have done with updating but again, was clean. The breakfast the next morning (included in our £39 room rate) was EXCELLENT! Selection of cereals and then the full English was cooked to order. Again, the staff were courteous, polite and friendly.

Overall, for £40 this hotel was excellent. Had it have been £100 my review would be different.

My husband and I used to love to come to this Hotel because although slightly old fashioned you could always rely on a really lovely dining experience...not any more! We arrived for our meal expecting the usual cosy atmosphere and consideration for guests but we were told that we would have to wait as there were no menus available. We said that we didn't mind waiting at our table until they could get us a menu and we were promptly shown into the new conservatory and asked to sit at a tiny little table that was so close to another couple that it was embarrassing. When the waitress came we asked if we could move one table down to give both ourselves and the other couple privacy. She was annoyed by this request and told us that each table was allocated to each guest. We moved our table anyway much to the relief of the other couple. This hotel used to provide a fine dining service, complete with laundered table cloths etc. Now there are wipe clean wooden laminate tables and sauce sachets in a bowl on all the tables. They still charge fine dining prices but now offer a lunchtime snack bar atmosphere. Do not go there! Unless you like being sqeezed in a sardine can.

Room Tip: Choose a room that you do not need to use the lift
