“What a Wee Gem !”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2013

The Wee Kelpie was recommended by a fellow golfer. The menu was good and varied with traditional fish and chips to Surf and turf - scallops and black pudding, calamari and scampi. All of which was perfectly cooked and presented. Don't be put off by the unassuming exterior it is well worth a visit. Everything was cooked to order but feel I must agree with one of the earlier comments that its quality over quantity the portion size was small in comparison to some other chip-shops.

“Food delicious”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 30, 2013 via mobile

Food was outstanding, the portion however was to small, sort the portion side out please. Other that the I'd say the best haddock and chips I've ever had, and the mushy peas were superb.

“The Hidden Gem The Wee Kelpie”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2013

Tried this chippie today, quite honestly, We were disappointed, basically our complaint was the portion size. for £6.50 for a haddock supper we felt the portion could have been larger. The haddock was freshly cooked for us and the wait was not too long. SORRY the chips were not to our liking ---- Why because anyone who knows the catering trade will tell you chips when left overnight in water develop a sour taste. the chips were in our opinion not fresh and Blanched before being finished off to order.
The road workers[unavoidable] outside the shop made conversation difficult. sorry but any OBAN chippy beats this shop

“Better than Anstruther!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2013

Their fish is just so thick and meaty and fresh in comparison to any of the other local chip shops and as it's cooked to order, it's never dried out on a hotplate behind a window. The chips are fantastic, proper thick and chunky hand cut beasts. Their mushy peas are home made and have a lovely minty flavour. It's no more expensive than any other chippy and must surely be nominated for chip shop of the year before much longer. If I have any gripe, it's maybe than on one occasion I didn't get a particularly big portion of chips, but that was definitely a one off.
