“Stunning home”
Reviewed October 12, 2013

A beautiful house that is a monument to Charles Rennie Macintosh. Every room is a delight, the furnishings and decoration all so elegant. The spare rooms that are used for artwork inspired by Macintosh are also very interesting. Great staff, well worth a visit.

“Rennie MacIntosh”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

Beautiful! Perfectly restored as Mac Intosh designed it and a lovely gift shop. Helensburgh itself has some interesting walks and scenic drives.

“Mackintosh designed house”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

We had been to see the Charles Mackintosh exhibition in Glasgow and were advised to visit this house. If you are interested in art and architecture you must visit this place when in Helensburgh.

“Fabulous and worth the trip”
Reviewed October 4, 2013

An interesting and informative place to visit. I was surprised at how current the Charles Rennie mackintosh interiors look even almost a century later. It has the feel of a happy family home which must have been a practical place to live. It would still work well by today's standards. Inspired us to buy a Tiffany lamp for our study in this style. The guides were very welcoming, helpful and informative. I would go back and would like to visit some other Rennie Mackintosh sites.

“A Fantastic Example of Charles Rennie Mackintosh Architecture and Design”
Reviewed September 30, 2013

If you are a fan of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his wife Margaret MacDonald the Hill House is a must visit. The house has been extensively renovated by the National Trust for Scotland and is staffed by very welcoming and knowledgeable volunteers.

The house is stunning to look at from the gardens but once inside it really takes off. The house throughout has all the design detail you would expect from Charles Rennie Mackintosh. There is a lot of the original furniture and restored items. It is a really beautiful house.

There is a café in the house so you can get a bite to eat and drink.

We live in Glasgow and it took us about 40 minutes to drive there. If you are not a member of the Scottish National Trust entrance is £10pp.

If you are in a car you can drive down to the front in Helensburgh and have some fish and chips beside the river Clyde.

It is a fair drive away but definitely worth it if that kind of architecture and design is your thing.
