“Situated in a wonderful setting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 30, 2013 via mobile

My wife and I visited this pub on a Monday at the end of October and although it is 4 miles from the main road we were surprised to find it busy. No wonder, after a lovely welcome we settled down to a scrumptuous meal in very cosy surroundings. If in the area it is a must to visit on the banks of Loch Lomond.

“tucked away”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2013

What a find. Stopped for lunch one dreary day while driving around. Wonderful atmosphere, especially in the bar area with all its knick knacks around the walls. The staff were excellent, attentive and pleasant, without being over zealous. The meal was excellent ( I loved the touch of the "locally caught haggis") which was also very tasty. With a good choice of menu fare overall I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this establishment. By the way they do have accommodation, which we did not see, but this would be an ideal base for walking in the area.

“The one and only, but not the ultimate.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2013

The Oak Tree Inn is the only place to eat in Balmaha and I had some tasty soup at lunchtime after coming down off a wet and cold Conic Hill and then went back for an early evening meal.

The bar is nice, lots of atmosphere and chatter from Loch Lomond tourists and walkers, and both sessions were very busy with people having to wait around for a table. The evening service was a bit mixed, two of the waitresses knew their job and were appropriately attentive, whilst a third seemed a bit vacuous and not really 'at the races'.

Tried the Bad Boy Bacon Burger on recommendation from a TripAdvisor review but was a little disappointed. Some Scottish burgers seem to have a sausage meat kind of taste and I'm still trying to find a contender to beat The Ultimate Burger served at The Swan in Heddon on the Wall in Northumbria - still my ultimate pub burger!

“Did us Proud”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2013

Sixteen of us descended on the Oak Tree for lunch after a delightful walk around the enchanting Inchgailloch Island. The staff were expecting us and made us most welcome - they had set out a large table for us sit together. It was a busy lunchtime at the inn and they did us proud – both the food and the service. Everyone enjoyed their meal which was selected either from the menu - full of interesting choices - or from the specials ' blackboard'. The service was excellent and the walkers paying individually for their meal and drinks presented them with no problem. A great lunch.
