My girlfriend and I stayed at the Winnock for their Murder Mystery Night last week and it could not have gone better!
We have been to Drymen and the surrounding area before, so we knew that would not disappoint, but it was our first time in the hotel and we were very impressed. The building is old fashioned but without looking run down, our room was huge and had everything we needed (included a balcony) and the staff were very helpful and friendly. I must also add a special mention for Ryan who was extra accommodating with murder mystery party that evening which helped make it a great night!
It was our first ever murder mystery and so we didn't really know what to expect and we may even have been a little apprehensive. However, there was no need. The whole evening was brilliant fun; with a relaxed structure to the evening (and following morning), nice settings and excellent hosts/actors, we laughed the night away.
I would thoroughly recommend the murder mystery package and the hotel in general.

Room Tip: Room 82 was excellent and had a balcony!

Location? Village centre, a good touring base. I stayed with one of two coach parties around April 1st. The buildings are a mix of B&W, historic, original; and more-modern extended wings to the rear and side. My room, no.4, was above the function suite. If you don`t want to hear whatever entertainment`s underway until late, ask for a quiet room. That`s a tip, not a criticism: I thought the singers they put on for us were good.
First impressions? Cosy reception area. Good, smart, friendly service. Maybe the corridors have been bashed around a bit by coachloads like us and their suitcases but the fabrics & furnishings generally were well up to the standard.
My room was average/fair size for a twin with plenty of storage space, good-looking carpet & curtains, comfy bed, always warm, spotlessly clean en-suite, everything electrical worked, lighting a bit dim maybe, constant hot water which is a triumph for hotels coping with coach party demand. Bring your own conditioner.
Evening dinners were outstandingly good. Tables beautifully set, good menu. Meat tender, fish melted in the mouth, sauces tasty, vegetables never over-cooked, all served at a good temperature. Again, to manage this for coach parties, night after night. speaks volumes for good cooks & hardworking staff. Served tea & coffee at the tables at the end of the meal, I never felt rushed, never felt on a conveyor belt. Dining in the restaurant, as opposed to the function room, adds a cosy, antiquated ambiance. The desserts were delicious. I`d definitely go back.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the function suite & bar should be quieter

Time and time again, you read complaints from the odd 'hard to please' person with regards to any property/location. If there are good and very good rewiews, simply ignore the moaning minnies. They only throw in doubt. On the whole, the Winnock was an excellent place. The food was really good, the staff brilliant all round. No place is absolutely perfect if you just want to find fault. It is the goal of many a spanner to just find fault with everything. Please just allow for human error (if there is any worth bothering about in the first place!)
Can you understand that some morons go to bed at around 9pm and wonder why normal people may still be enjoying themselves till 'late'; read 12 at the latest as a golden rule. Much earlier I suspect.
Do feel very safe about the Winnock. Any complaint is wildly out of character.
I would return there and recommend the Winnock, any day of the the week to anyone without a moaning purpose or 'seek and you will find something wrong if you keep trying brigade'
I just love shooting down the perpetual moaners! Come back on and say you haven't gone over the top you really dull moaning people.

We were given xmas present of a murder mystery night and were delighted as we'd been before and had a good time. We booked in and were allocated room 31. At first sight the room looked fine but felt cold, there was one small radiator behind a grill which was not giving out much heat. I went to reception and asked for a heater and was told one would be put to the room. It took another ask after 20 minutes wait to get one. Once the fan heater got going we realised that there was a horrendous draft from both windows and we had to pack the curtains into the window space.at this point we were getting near the time for the murder mystery, so my wife went to shower. The shower ran hot and cold for no apparent reason and the water was not draining away. we complained but were told there were no other rooms and were given complimentary wine with dinner. In the morning we discovered the windows were sellotaped, presumably in an attempt to eliminate the draft. the whole experience put us off the winnock which is a shame as the murder mystery was great and the food wasn't bad, but oh dear room 31

Room Tip: avoid rooms at the front of the hotel especially ROOM31

My Wife and I just returned from this amazing 3 night break. We are well travelled and stayed in many hotels, myself in particular through business over 40 years.

Without doubt this rates in my top 5 stays anywhere in UK.

The highlight was the restaurant. The presentation, quality and flavours of every dish presented was 5*+ at every meal. that includes Breakfast and Dinner each night. The staff service was 1st rate for efficiency and pleasantness. Breakfast served at the table was a wonderful change from most hotels that rely on buffet service, and what a breakfast. Reader, please keep in mind in mind that the that the rate on this Easybreak is £65 per night per couple including Breakfast and Dinner. That is £32:50 each. One couldn't get this quality of Dinner in any restaurant that I know of , anywhere. Then a bonus of a bottle of wine value £17:50 (wine list price) on our first night.

The Hotel itself is very Olde Worlde. Parts dating back to the 1700"s, but the standards are as close to the 21st century as it can get within the confines of it's age. The Bedroom we had was better than most places we have stayed. Clean, good quality furniture, bedding and decor throughout.

The Public Rooms including the bar area were quaint but very comfortable. The Reception and Public Room Staff were amongst the most pleasant and helpful we have ever experienced.

The serious reader may have noticed in other reviews mentions of "coach parties". True, there were 4 such parties during our stay. However, the management of this hotel make sure there is absolutely minimal impact on the individual traveller staying at this hotel. They have a totally separate eating facility and we saw very little evidence of such parties, perhaps occasionally in the bar or lounge area enjoying the fantastic "Log Fires".

The whole hotel is kept wonderfully warm throughout, which was great for Scotland in winter.

Located surrounding a lovely Village Green in the most charming village of Drymen, within close proximity to Loch Lomond and numerous other beautiful places for visiting, this Hotel and the amazing Easybreaks deal made this the very best break we have enjoyed over the past 5 years. That is out of more than 50 breaks we have taken in that time.

As you may have noticed we have been overwhelmed by everything the management of this hotel have provided for our enjoyment and pleasure and firmly believe that this dedication should be rewarded with the full support of todays army of break-seekers.

Room Tip: 31 to 39 were pretty good as far as we could notice in passing. Perhaps they are all good. Especiall...

This was a lovely hotel, it is only on two floors but downstair bedrooms rooms are available. The food was splendid and served beautifully. The staff were all friendly and very helpful, nothing too much trouble for them. Our bedroom needed upgrading a bit, but on speaking to the manager he said all the bedrooms where we were staying were all being upgraded soon. The hotel is very handy for visiting this beautiful part of Scotland.
