“One night stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 1, 2012

My wife and I had a single night and wished it could have been longer. Tracy on Reception gave a very good first impression and the staff all round were friendly and obliging. Room was more than adequate while the food was excellent. I do agree with another review that the huge TV screens in the bar were a bit overwhelming

My husband and I had a 2 night stay begining of Sept 2012. The staff are lovely, very helpful and friendly. Food is fantastic and room very cofmortable. The only thing I thought let the hotel down was the bar area, didn't like the bit screen TVs. All in all a lovely stay would stay at this hotel again and recomend to friends.

Room Tip: We had an excellence room with balcony, very spacious and comfy

My husband Les and I stayed at this hotel from the 18th September for three nights. The hotel was clean, the food was superb, the staff all very friendly and helpful. The housekeeping staff were very helpful and friendly. The chef well MAGNIFICENT! Bar prices very reasonable was another bonus.
There are lots of walks and things to do nearby. We would stay here again without hesitation, however we like to travel to different places.
My thanks to the Winnock for a nice and enjoable stay.

Room Tip: The 90's numbers look out onto the kitchens and are noisey early morning.

We visited the hotel for a friends wedding, stayed for 4 nights (Thursday to Monday). We found all of the staff friendly and helpful. The hotel itself was in reasonable condition, our room was relatively clean but was not spotless. The towels were very thin and the dispensed soap was unappealing. The food was of decent quality and reasonably priced (for both breakfast and evening meal) The wedding was well organised and we could only compliment the staff who arranged it. Whilst this hotel is in no way immaculate we enjoyed our stay and found staff helpful, friendly and whom provided good service.

Booked for over night stay on our way to Lochgilphead, thought it would be lovely so close to Loch Lomond. Hotel seemed 'tired' and our room smelt of stale cigarettes. The restaurant was good and clean and served nice food.

The prices at the Winnock Hotel are not cheap but many of the practices and attitudes are just that.

The first thing we noticed when we entered our room was the strong smell of chlorine; more like an old-fashioned swimming pool than a nice hotel. Then we noticed the thin, cheap towels and the fact that there were no toiletries, just liquid soap in dispensers screwed to the walls. There was a kettle so we could make drinks but only 3 tea bags and 3 sachets of instant coffee and when they were gone they were not replaced.

We went to breakfast quite late the first morning and none of the used tables had been cleared. There was nobody there to greet and seat. The two staff on duty did not seem at all focused on serving but preferred to stare out of the window or chat to other members of staff. There were no glasses for us to help ourselves to fruit juice and other tables had to ask for butter and sugar. When, eventually, they did start to clear the tables they removed the plates and cutlery but did not wipe the tables down. In stark contrast, the second morning had a more senior person (manager?) working and the whole attitude and service was much more professional.

The fire doors and room doors have very strong springs and no soft closers so from before 7am there was a great deal of door banging. One outside door was constantly wedged wide open in spite of the cold and it also meant that anyone could just wander in from outside. For a good part of the day most fire doors and room doors were wedged wide open and dirty linen was left lying around in heaps in the corridors until well into the afternoon.

The bed was comfortable and the rooms were reasonably clean but not sparkling. One of the worst faults was that on Saturday morning there was no soap in the Ladies toilet in the public area. In the afternoon there was still no soap. This was pointed out to one of the waitresses who went inside to use the facilities but by mid-evening there was still no soap. What made it worse was that we were there for a family wedding and there were in the region of 75 women attending plus the waitresses - none could wash their hands properly.
Having said that, the function itself was quite well organised and the food was reasonably good. The staff were mostly friendly and helpful and when they wanted to be, were reasonably efficient and appeared quite well trained.
It is a difficult place to grade since service and attitudes could vary so much but overall, for the price it was extremely disappointing. Other family who chose one of the many Bed & Breakfast establishments in the village had a much better (and far cheaper) experience.
