“Ideal end to a long day”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

Stayed here with two others when walking the West Highland Way, at the end of a long 20 miles plus what appeared to be a long walk down the hill from the route to Crianlarich.
The staff were very welcoming and served excellent food and drink.
Accommodation was in a cosy cabin, which while not huge was large enough to sort out a change of clothes and provide a refreshing shower.
Breakfast was ideal and packed lunch did the job for the next day's walk.

Only stopped here by chance due to disappointing experience at a hotel up the road.(sat at a table for 15 minutes, only to ignored) but im glad of that. This place was the opposite. A warm welcome as you come through the door, made to feel comfortable and that nothing was too much trouble.
The food was served in a timely fashion and was very nicely presented. The portion size was maybe on only thing I could fault....it was way too big..lol..put on a few pounds after that meal.

I can recommend the steak and ale pie. It was packed with steak and the gravy was gorgeous.

Will definitely be back.

Popped in here for lunch and found it very cosy and warm (had a real fire) and the staff were extremely friendly & welcoming. The walls were covered in written comments by travellers on the West Highland Way, and though not to everyone's taste & found it novel and interesting to read what visitors thought of Scotland.
The pool table area was attractive with paintings of Scottish castles, etc.
A very Scottish-themed pub, which left me disappointed when I ordered Soup of the Day... to be given tomato soup! A broth, lentil or leek & potato soup would be more in line with the theme?
I'd definitely return here though as it was very welcoming.

I stayed here along with my two friends on day 2 of our walk on the west highland way. We arrived at around 7.30 pm and were met by staff who appeared concerned for our safety as we had been walking in the dark. The staff could not have been any friendlier and welcoming. Our bags had already been delivered to our rooms, which doesnt sound like a big deal, howevere after a long day of walking it is. Our room was like a cabin and had 3 single beds. There was plenty of room and the room was very well heated, en suite with sky tv. Our room was a 30 sec walk to the main building where we had our dinner. A lovely meal was had. I can only apologise to the staff as I was so exhausted mentally and physically that I could not engage in much chat. All our needs were met, and yes we did manage to finish the west highland way walk...just! I wood definitely recommend a stay here. Thank you

Our room was like a little cozy cabin. The dinner was comforting and good. Breakfast was included with the price of our room. The entertainment in the pub was wonderful and they had no problem including us Americans. Ian was the singer/guitarist and he was incredible! He even got my husband to wear a kilt and one of the servers taught him a Scottish dance! I wish we could have stayed one more day so we could have toured the beautiful surrounding area, which was at a bit of a higher elevation and took us some time to get up there. We would most definitely return to Ben More.

Room Tip: Our room was not big but there was plenty of elbow room to move around. Very Small bathroom.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2012

On my partner and I's third leg of the WHW, we spent 12 hours walking 20 miles. We had nothing but torrential rain for the entire time; sustained multiple injuries to our legs in the form of blisters, sprained ankles and incredibly painful arch cramps; were frozen to the bone by the blistering winds; and had to slow down to about 0.5 mph because of our injuries.

It was quite simply, the worst day of our lives, and were almost completely hopeless as we turned corner after corner only to be confronted by endless rolling hills and a quickly darkening sky. By the time we eventually made it to the lodge, my partner had sworn that she couldn't possibly continue the next day, and I was quite prepared to put her on a train the next day.

However, as soon as we entered the lodge, it literally felt like we had been rescued. One of the owners grabbed our bags and took them to our cabin, other staff members quickly got us a mug of tea and expressed their worry that we perhaps weren't going to make it there. Best of all - despite being far past the time of service - staff were kind enough to throw together some soup and sandwiches for us which was just what we needed to fight away the cold. They told us to go sleep and we could pay our bill in the morning, and sleep we did.

The next morning, we were treated to an excellent breakfast, first class hospitality from the staff and were allowed to write our gratitude on their wall, which i thought was a nice touch. Best of all, the night's sleep and the generosity of the staff gave my partner the strength to carry on, all the way to Fort William. We even ran into the owner in Tyndrum, where he gave us advice on which shop was cheapest for food!

All-in-all, while of course my review is based on the condition we arrived at the lodge in, we really loved this place and will visit it again next time we're up North. Thanks!
