“Very good informal restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 22, 2013

We were recommended this place for dinner by Airlie House B&B down the road in Stratheyre. Charming cafe style restaurant, but with great quality food. Starters and desert were particularly good, but a good range to the menu including a good range of seafood.

Lovely friendly service and not at all rushed which you sometimes get in cafe style restaurants.

“Motel facility”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 10, 2013

We stayed here with an Online discount voucher. No reception or checkin,,just hang around until someone asks if they can help. A key brought out from a Private office. Room was great, clean, roomy, ensuite loo etc. But,,the leg of the bed broke, too late in the evening to start mucking about so turned it round. No milk in the morning for coffee etc,,so on going downstairs, no staff at all in attendance,,and despite me walking round the lower floors shouting 'hello' no response,,same with the private office,,no answer. Helped myself to milk from the fridge, On checking out,,only staff member was behind the bar, slicing butter. She looked confused when I handed in the key,, even more confused when I advised re the bed breaking and no supply of milk.. My biggest disappointment was,,I emailed the company a couple of days after this, and have yet to even receive an acknowledgement. Im sure the emphasis seems to be on food,,but how you deal with even the smallest of issues affects returning business, poor in this case,

“Chance encounter with pleasant result”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 9, 2013

We visited the Trossachs National Park, travelling with 2 small kids and hadn’t actually planned on stopping there. We had a flat tyre on our rental car and stopped our car on the parking to wait for roadside assistance. We loved it there. It was warm and cosy, staff as well as other patrons were friendly and understanding (our little one was a bit of a mood at first), and we had great coffee and delicious cake – I had the victoria sponge which was delicious. Unfortunately the towing truck came to pick us up 60 minutes later, otherwise we might have stayed there a little longer for dinner. It is definitely worth the detour, no only in cases of emergency, and should we return to the Trossachs we would definitely try to spend more time there.

“Excellent food, erratic service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 9, 2013

We stopped here on the way past just on spec and were very pleased that we did. There were 7 in our party including one 4 year old, but we were fortunate to get a large table without any problem.

The menu is mouth-watering, and the food lived up to expectations. Unfortunately one of the main courses ordered (soup with cheese scone) didn't arrive, and by the time we questioned it they had run out of cheese scones and could only offer bread. Which was still nice, but not what was expected. My son's macaroni cheese, however, was about the best I have ever tasted. The ingredients in all the dishes were very fresh and everything was delicious.

Service was a bit erratic, with one missed main course and a couple of missed drinks. But was friendly. The cakes on display looked mouth-watering, but quite a few were open to the air and had wasps and flies round them, making them much less appealing.

Definitely a good stopping-off point for lunch. But be aware you may need to keep on top of what you order!

“Contemporary twist to this old hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2013

The former Kingshouse Hotel has been stripped back and in its place a good place to drop-in for food. We weren't staying overnight so can't comment on the rooms but the downstairs public areas were buzzing and the the food was great. The only negative was the service which, although friendly, was a bit erratic.
