“appalling”

this is without a doubt the worst B & B i have had the misfortune to stay in and i've stayed in hostels and various types of accommodation across the world.

The room was filthy, cushions on the bed covered in saliver off previous guests, the bathroom had a piece [--] on the radiator next to the toilet, the toilet door did not close (very romantic), there was no hot water, the TV only had 3 channels working and would not tune in to anything else, paper thin walls where you can hear everything in attached rooms and outside, poor breakfast and finally a 2 inch gap under the door to allow a cold draft into the room. NEVER EVER CONSIDER STAYING HERE!!

The town of Balloch itself is nice 5 pubs and several restraunts, locals were very approachable and helpful. We would certainly go back to Balloch but stay elsewhere.

Please don't stay here!
On arrival we rang the bell and a man in paint covered clothes answered. And we could smell immediately a strong smell of fish.
We asked him if he had a room free and he said yes and just walked off.. so i followed him in and he showed us the room, and it was like stepping back into the early nineties.

We should have said its ok - dont bother there and then, but we were too polite as usual.
It was £50.00 for the room for the night and we gave him cash in the bedroom, he was a man of very few words and just said, be out by 8.30am!!!

any way after feeling a bit gutted, we checked out the bed and found the bed had practically collapsed underneath and i found splatters of blood on the bed clothes!

so we just decided there and then to spend as little time as possible in the room..

It is quite bad though knowing that you have spent £50.00 to stay in a room that is far less superior to your own at home.

the town of balloch itself was also quite dissapointing a couple of pubs and thats it really. A bit of a dump to be honest.

The Anchorage is not on the banks of loch lomand either. its a bit of a drive to see any thing decent. It is basically the very edge of the loch with a few boats. (not a romantic harbour though if thats what you are expecting)

It was basically a bungalow with the rooms used for guests.. the walls were very thin, and you could hear everthing from next door - including the farting :-) so if you are looking for a romantic get away.. you wont be feeling in the mood here!

We also itched all night and i woke up in the morning with a bite in my ear. so we didnt get much sleep.

Breakfast was quite tiny, but filled a gap.
No one said goody bye as we left... (at 8.30!!) it was cold and foggy outside and nothing was open at that time. we were planning on taking a boat cruise along loch lomand (which does depart from right next to the b&b) but was a long way from opening. so we decided to make tracks and go to glsagow instead.

Not the best time.. and wont be going back there!

  • Liked — They had a car park.. but then there was plenty of parking on the street any way!
  • Disliked — It was dirty and smelly and grotty.
