Our party of three stayed at the Gowanlea Guest House on our first night in Scotland. We were not sure what to expect since none of us had ever stayed in guest house style accommodations before. We all very pleasantly surprised. Upon arrival, we were met by Andrea, who showed us up to our room (a triple) and explained how to use the shower and what we needed to do to order breakfast the next morning. The room had plenty of space for the three of us. The ensuite bathroom was a little tight, but adequate. The shower was had plenty of hot water, courtesy of the individual hot water heater. The beds were super comfortable and were the most comfortable of any of the places we stayed on our trip.

We were served a wonderful, hot, cooked-to-order breakfast the next morning that really helped get us going. We spoke to an English couple who informed us they had been coming to the Gowanlea for 20 years. Although the place had gone through different owners in that time span, they found it was as good now as it was when they first came. I think that is as good a testimonial as you can find.

Overall, the entire property was clean, clean, clean. it was quiet and peaceful, too.

We loved the Gowanlea and we will book there again on our return trip to Scotland.

Andrea was a great host who treated us to a fantastic stay and breakfast. Stayed for 2 nights. Enjoyed the well appointed room and the free (and not slow) wifi. Breakfast is basically a 2 course meal of porridge/cereal/fruit etc and then a cooked breakfast if you want. Porridge was some of the best I've had in Scotland. And the Haddock and poached eggs was a good choice for the hot breakfast. An easy walk too down to the many restaurants in the area. You really won't get a better value room in Scotland. Will stay again if we are ever lucky enough to come to Scotland again!

The welcome we received by Andrea was so nice and made us real at ease from the start. We got offered a very welcomed cup of tea when we got there. The room was just clean and very tidy we was shown where the guest lounge was and where our bathroom was.We was told where we could go the following day to see a few sites and Andrea said someone had canceled and we got offered the room which they sorted out for us when we went out for the day.So we got back and our luggage was moved for us and our things hung up for us.Andrea sorted out the taxi for us for our evening out.I would certainly go back and stay here again without a second thought that's for sure.... thank you for our enjoyable stay

Booked a double ensuite and a twin with private bathroom for an overnight stay as we'd been up to our caravan in the Scottish Highlands for a fortnight and thought a stop off at a couple of different places on the way back would be great so that we could see a bit more of what Scotland has to offer. The b&b itself was REALLY hard to find as the map didn't seem to make sense and we had to drive round for 20 mins or so checking and double-checking streetnames until finally giving up and phoning the owner for clearer directions. Not a good start. We did however get a very warm welcome from Andrea who showed us where the guest lounge was (does anyone ever use those??) and promptly showed us to our rooms. The twin room was a good size and you could tell they had tried to make it look posh with a bowl-type sink and two fluffy bathrobes in the wardrobe. The private bathroom is the SMALLEST I have EVER seen!! If you sat on the toilet, you had to be REALLY careful not to knock your arms into the heated towel rail which was scaldingly hot. Impossible to get changed and have a shower which am now guessing is why they have bathrobes in there. My reason for saying that is because the double ensuite didn't have bathrobes at all. Either that or someone had stolen them and they hadn't been replaced. Either way, it seemed a bit shoddy. Surely, what you put in one room, you should put in all the rooms?? The double ensuite I have to say did have quite a long deep bath but again, there was shampoo and shower gel attached to the wall to prevent anyone stealing them but no bubble bath. What's the point in having a bath in there?? Upon arrival, we were given breakfast cards like in a hotel to fill in and there was great variety but in reality, portion size was tiny (the breakfast bowls were poncey and designed not to hold much) and the timings were terrible so the toast and coffee were stone cold by the time we were ready for them. OK, they'll loan you a laptop for free and it's free wi-fi but am on holiday, am there to get away from people mithering me!! Sorry Tripadvisor, wasn't all that impressed with this. Have paid less in other places for better value.

Many thanks for an excellent stay in Balloch Andrea - as the others have said, a warm welcome, good room, great breakfast (porridge highly recommended) and good location too. Some noise from the other rooms, but otherwise a good night's sleep and quiet location whilst handy for the restaurants etc. We stayed for 4 nights (one day for a wedding) and found plenty to do.
