We had been looking forward to a nice meal in the Cameron House Grill Room for some time, so our expectations were quite high. The dining room did not open until 6:30PM, so we had a cocktail in the sports bar while waiting for it to open.
I ordered a Manhattan and my wife a glass of wine. It took them over 10 minutes to bring them to our table. I could see the drinks sitting on the counter, but nobody bothered to bring them to us. When they did arrive, the cherries in the cocktail did not taste like maraschino, and the proportions of bourbon and vermouth were not right.
The waiters were friendly enough, but not as professional as you would expect in such an establishment.
We ordered the sample salmon plate with 4 different types of salmon. It was delicious, but it was served on a rectangular plate, and it was difficult to get the small anchovies and caviar onto our plates without using our forks. there should have been a small serving spoon accompany the salmon plate. we had the chateaubriand, and asked very specifically to have it pink all the way through. When it arrived, it was already sliced, but was more red (rare) all the way through.

The meat was tender enough, but a bit disappointing for my wife's taste. The peppercorn sauce was completely bland, and it was only after we had reached the bottom of the sauce bowl that we found all the peppercorns. Another thing about the sauce bowl, it had a handle sticking out and a lip at 90 degrees. If you were left handed (like I am), you had to pour the sauce out backwards, spilling some of it down the side of the bowl.
The open kitchen was a bit noisy, and the long padded back to back bench seating was not conducive to an intimate night out. We could actually join in the conversations with the people sitting next to us, it was so close. The armchair at the other side of the table was about 4 " too short. I'm about 5' 10" and found that the table was almost chest high. It is probably the nicest place in Balloch to have a meal, too bad they do not have any competition. Would I go back for another meal there? Probably not!

Went here for a birthday party , wow a really nice place and great atmosphere, food good but expensive, it is a hotel though so you do expect this, the views of the loch are great and the sport facilities are great to, must come back and stay!

The service was superb. Not intrusive but immediately on the ball. Food was amazing. Wine was excellent. The scallops were the very best I have had and my partner was impressed with the salmon bar. Chateaubriand was perfect.

We took advantage of a deal voucher for luxury afternoon tea and loch cruise of the loch.
On arrival we were warmly welcomed by friendly staff and directed to the drawing room where again staff were friendly with first class service. The afternoon tea was delicious and plentiful. Although we were leisurely (never felt hurried by staff) and despite a few pauses, we could not finish everything served and staff offered to box the remainder and leave for us to collect after the loch cruise.
The cruise also run by Cameron House staff was good and again staff were both helpful and friendly.

The day was to celebrate the start of my retirement and what a superb launch.
