We have stayed here many times over the past 11 years, but this is the first time since we've been on the internet. There has been several changes since we last stayed there, including an enlarged dining room, and the opening up of the function room, with more room for dancing, and improved seating for guests. The hotel is situated at the head of a sea loch, with stunning views all around, within the small village of Arrochar. In the village there are two pubs(that I know about),a few shops,a couple of restaurants, and other hotels, all open to non residents. Across the loch is Ben Arthur, locally known as " The Cobbler "due to it resembling a shoemakers last. The hotel was the first in the chain of six, owned and run by Lochs and Glens Holidays, all situated on or near a Scottish Loch. Originally known as Rosses Hotel,it was a temperance hotel, (no alcohol),but thank goodness and common sense,it now has a fully stocked bar, which is well used by guests. This being a package tour company, many, varied itineraries are offered, and you may visit some of the following places during your holiday of either 4,5,6 or 7 days. Cruise on Loch Lomond,Loch Awe,Inveraray,Crieff and the Grouse experience at Glenturret,Scotlands oldest distillery,Cruachan hydro electric power station, inside a hollowed out mountain,Oban,Fort William,Steam train to Mallaig,Glencoe,Rannoch Moor,Cruise Loch Katrine,Killin, where the Dochart Falls cascade alongside the high street,Isle of Bute and Mount Stuart House,Isle of Arran and Brodick Castle Gardens,Edinburgh, either for the day or an evening visit to the world famous Military Tattoo, held every year,in August on the Esplanade of Edinburgh Castle,or visit The City of Glasgow for shopping or sightseeing. Where you go will depend on the time of year you take your chosen holiday..The staff are excellent, and Linn, the manageress is a mine of information.Ideal walking and climbing country, with various walks ranging from easy to the more difficult for the more experienced climber. Loch Lomond is only 2 miles away cross country.
Evening entertainment is mostly for people who like to dance, and there is the occasional visit of a piper and scottish country dancing lassies,so bring your kilts and plaid and let your hair down, and relive those moves you learned at primary school!
The holiday starts as soon as you board your coach,at your chosen pick-up point, virtually anywhere within the UK. There are regular stops for coffee, lunch and comfort on your way to and from the hotel. Relax, enjoy the journey, take in the scenery, you're on holiday, and you're not driving either.
