“Awesome location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2014

We just ate breakfast at this hotel on our way from Glasgow to Ben Nevis, but felt compelled to write a positive review given the excellent service we received. The staff were extremely friendly and nice. The food in the restaurant was awesome (especially for 4 vegetarians). The hotel is located in one of the most beautiful locales in the world. So would definitely recommend this to anyone thinking of staying in the area.

Hassle free, relaxing hotel with stunning views of Loch Lomond and Ben Lomond. Excellent selection of single malts too. The staff, Becky & Kevin, went the extra mile despite being clearly rushed off their feet. Rooms are basic but do the job. To be honest at such a beautiful location you don't need to spend too much time in them anyway. My only complaint is that dogs were allowed into the restaurant. Easy to get to from Glasgow by road.

Room Tip: Ask for a Loch view.

We stopped overnight here 2 weeks ago on our way to the Highlands. A delightful slightly 1950's feel hotel. Smallish room but wonderful views. Perfect for a short stop. Food in the restaurant excellent and very good section of whiskies as befits a whisky ambassador hotel. .

Stunning views & cheerful staff with great food, we stopped in for an early dinner on our way home from Fort William, which we ate in the sunshine on a very nice terrace and we all drove home with very full and happy tummies after a very pleasant walk around the hotel's marina and a cooling paddle in the loch.

Had a really nice weekend with my girlfriend in Ardlui Hotel. The food is decent, if maybe not too imaginative. The staff were very helpful and happy to make recommendations for walking routes etc. They have their own minibus, so are also happy to pick-up or drop-off guests from nearby attractions. There is a small static caravan park attached to the hotel, although it was quiet when we were there, but did make the restaurant and bar busy at times.

The rooms do seem quite variable, depending on which end of the hotel you are at, and some of them seem in need of a refurb. The 'standard' room we had on our first night was very basic, didn't have a shower, was next to the road, and was right above the public bar (room 18). Fortunately we got moved to a premium room at the other end of the hotel (room 10) because there was live music in the bar at night. The premium room was so much better, was much bigger and was really quiet. According to the tarriff, premium rooms are only £20 per night more that a standard room - so I'd definitely recommend upgrading. There was free wifi in the guest lounge, but not in the bedrooms. It was also very slow by modern standards.

The dinner menu was quite extensive, with a lot of british favourites (fish and chips, steak pie, steak etc), and a few more adventurous daily specials, which we liked. Breakfast is fairly standard also, and is served till 10:30, which we also liked. There is nice outdoor beer garden, and a more traditional public bar, which gets busy at the weekend.

There is a ferry right outside the door (£4 per person), which takes you across the Loch, to the West Highland Way. There are also several boat trips on the Loch from Inverglas and Tarbet, a few miles south.

Would defintely recommend, although if I was staying here again, I would defintely find out which room I was getting, and where it was located before booking.

Room Tip: Rooms near the road are noisier, and are above the public bar. Wifi only in the guest lounge, not i...

My wife and I stayed here many times, knew all the staff, and had a great time.

We usually stayed weekends and just ran our account, Easier to pay one bill at the end, we are trusting and trusted the Hotel.
The food was nothing special but its a backpacking area.
We were asked to , in the middle of our breakfast move out of dining room to another room, no set table just plain table, as they were going to have a meeting there. ok we accomodated. Breakfast was well overcooked, obviously sitting under heat lamp. we complained and were told breakfast is finished.
We paid rather my wife did and left, We had been overcharged, so we telephoned and were told they would sort it next time, they did, there were items which not signed by us and corresponded to other rooms. We complained about it and thought that was that. WE recieved our statement and we had been debitted twice, not possible they said. I went there with my statement. The owner was excessively rude, it was busy was his excuse. We will take it off your next bill. I wanted refund to card or cash, we were not going to stay again. He asked us to leave and barred us we spent average 300 pounds twice a month there. Not any more. Beware pay as you go, and make sure its your bill

Room Tip: Stay as high up as possible room 22 is very quiet and the bar noise does not get there
