Owner description: Welcome to Loch Katrine - one of Scotland's special places. Just as special as the magnificent scenery is the famous steamship "Sir Walter Scott" which itself has been a landmark in The Trossachs for over a hundred years. Your visit is not complete without a cruise on this wonderful ship, or on "Lady of the Lake", the perfect way to experience the beauty of Loch Katrine. Perhaps you'll just want to relax with a coffee or a meal in the Brenachoile Cafe Bar, shop for a souvenir and take a stroll by the shore, or bring the family for a cycle trip?

“What a gem of a place”

we liked everything about this little gem of a place. It must be very busy in summer but at the time of our visit (October) we had the place almost to ourselves and only regret that we had to move on instead of spending another couple of days in the area. If we're fortunate enough to return to Scotland (from Australia) we will most certainly make time for Loch Katrine.

“Steamship, calm scenery, friendly atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 1, 2013

We went to Lake Katrine to take a ride about the Steamship Sir Walter Scott. While the trip was a bit on the expensive side but it was actually worth it in my book. I mean here we are on a ship that is 114 years old still running on its original steam powered engine..... wow, how cool. It was just a peaceful and serene trip and the staff were just fantastic, we were running a few minutes late and they actually held the ship for us. The crew was very nice too.... the engineer in the engine room (which you can take pictures of) came up and talked to us for about 20min about the ship and its history, the captain also let us up into the cabin to take pictures of the original wooden wheel. There are seats inside as well if you want to get away from the weather (it was cool when we went). We ended up taking the 2 hour roundtrip (recommended as its not much more money than the 1hr cruise)..... you also have the choice to take it one-way to the other side and then can bike back (bikes are for rent and you are allowed to take them on ship). *NOTE - the GPS will NOT bring you to the right place, once you get close pay attention to the signs in the road for the pier!!!

“Lovely Autumn”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2013

Beautiful views, fairly priced steamer trips, friendly cafe and friendly tourist shop. The walk around the north side of the Loch is paved and suitable for walkers and cyclists. Electric buggies and cycles are available for hire at very reasonable prices. Lovely views of the Loch, Ben Venue and beyond - almost to Loch Lomond.

“Loch katrine”

We went on a fairly mild day. Booked tickets for the boat trip so whilst we waited we visited the cafe. Lovely sitting by an open fire on nice lounge chairs(although the fire wasn't lit it was very relaxing) we had cakes and coffee there was a varied selection as well as meals. We boarded for our one hour cruise. Two of us sat outside at the front but before long it did get rather cold and windy as the Crew came out with blankets for anyone who required one. The views were too nice to go inside and with the blankets and the hot chocolate with brandy we soon warmed up. It was lovely and well worth the boat trip. There is also a small gift shop and the story of rob Roy is displayed as you walk through to board the boat.
