“Fantastic pub lunch in an amazing setting”
Reviewed July 1, 2014

We took a day trip to Bute with my parents, son and his girlfriend and several cousins, and came upon the Kingarth Hotel. It was a glorious day and we sat on the covered patio and had an amazing lunch. All of the meals were huge and could easily be shared, but they were so delicious that we stuffed in as much as we could. My parents pronounced the ploughman's lunch the best they had ever had ( and they have a lot of experience). My husband said the same about the fish and chips, huge portion and really fresh. I had the seafood pie and it was amazing.

We enjoyed sharing a few of our leftover lettuce leaves with the resident pet rabbits and tortoise.

If you get the chance, don't miss the Kingarth Hotel!

“Microlight pilots favourite”
Reviewed June 28, 2014 via mobile

I was stuck on Bute for a day on the Fly UK 2014 microlight rally. Owing to the bad weather 7 of us basically made this place our home for the day, living on the excellent ploughmans, soft drinks and free wifi all day checking the weather. Kev the barman even ran a couple of us into Rothesay for fuel on his day off. These guys really know the meaning of the word hospitality, and our stay on Bute, despite the weather, was a great one thanks to this place.....and not for the first time....it's one of the best airfields to be stuck at in the UK!

“Outstanding Burger!”
Reviewed May 15, 2014 via mobile

If you want to eat in the Kingarth Hotel it is advisable to book or eat early as we did. On a Wednesday night they were very busy. I had the scallops and chorizo starter. The scallops were served with the roe which I love and they must have been local as they were the tastiest scallops I have ever eaten. The prawn cocktail, Greek salad and Calamari starters were enjoyed by the rest of the group. I had the duck with plum and brandy sauce cooked to perfection with a slightly pink centre and 6 perfectly cooked vegetables. Asparagus, broccoli, cauli, sweet potato, green beans and tiny baby carrots. I asked for mash with my duck rsther than new potatoes. Our friend had ordered the burger and he said it was Outstanding and was still talking about it at breakfast the next day! The men raved about the chips. The ladies finished off with shortbread, strawberry and cream stack. Completely wonderful. The combination of crisp shortbread, sweet strawberries and soft cream, loved it. We were also offered a lift back to our accommodation if it was required. We had a lovely New Zealand wine with our meal and the men had Hydes Two Hoots and Youngs bitter real ale. Wells done Kingarth for the lovely meal and atmosphere and wonderful helpful staff inside and out of the kitchen.
