This is our very favourite place to eat on Bute. We often go quite late in the afternoon when it is quiet in the week, or sometimes brave the crowds and go on a Sunday. The food is absolutely fantastic. huge mega portions of great quality. The fish soup this week was superb, and my husbands simple burger in a bun with chips was so monumentally huge we thought he was going to have to ask for a doggy bag. The chips are also huge, big thick cut home fries, and plenty. The young waitresses in there are so nice and friendly, always chirpy, but my only negative point is the manageress is a bit sniffy, never very friendly and a bit brusque. But the nice girls make up for it, and the fabulous food. We sit by the log burner next to the window and just while away the afternoon with good food and a nice view.

Probably one of Bute's better restaurants and worth a visit. The hotel is in a great location with a lovely beer garden, perfect for lazy afternoons with friends. The bar and restaurant have a friendly and inviting feel, and the staff are always pleasant. The meals are generously portioned and delicious, with a varied menu ranging from standard fish and chips to lamb tagine - something for everyone. It is definitely worth making the trip out of town as you won't be disappointed.

I seem to be echoing a number of other reviewers by reporting that we were holidaying on Bute earlier this month and ended up eating three meals here out of our 7 nights.

The Kingarth Hotel is a really nice British gastro-pub, which are few and far between in Scotland. (I love to holiday in Scotland, but I don't go there for the pubs, which are mostly stuck in a 1960's timewarp, serving gassy keg beer in depressing surroundings)

The Kingarth Hotel had draft Youngs and McMullens real ale, both of which were in excellent condition.

The first night we arrived at 7pm as a party of 6 without a reservation, and were told that we would likely have to wait 45 mins for table. As we had driven 15 minutes to get there, we decided to wait, and eventually were seated in 30 mins. Our two subsequent visits were both with a reservation.

We ordered a variety of food during our visits, including imaginative haggis starters, home-made minestrone soup (which my youngest son adored!), liver and bacon, sea bream, steaks and fish and chips.

Everything was nicely cooked and served in generous portions.

We typically got out of there each night for about £80 plus tip for 6 people, including drinks, a few starters, and six mains (two of which were kids meals).

This restaurant is deservedly thriving.

Have been holidaying on the Isle of Bute for the past 2 weeks. Although enough variety of restaurant's to choose from we have taken to eating at the Kingarth almost every second evening. The menu is extensive with plenty of variety and no matter what we have chosen the food has been to an excellent standard, fresh food and cooked to order. No frozen, on your table in 2 minutes garbage. Service is delivered by welcoming, pleasant and friendly staff. Given the food is not over prices adds to an all round wondferful dining out experience. Would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the island. Located in Kilchattan Bay.

Food was excellent, menu very extensive. I had a burger and it was excellent, be warned portions are large. Wine was very reasonable priced. Would definately go back on our next visit.
