“Beautiful location, great cottage”
Reviewed March 17, 2015 for a stay in March 2015

Stayed here for three nights. Views to die for and Bute is a fascinating island to explore. Can't fault the cottage - it's been done up well and is well equipped with two spacious bedrooms. It was clean and homely and cosy and has nice character with fab views. Toilet and shower on the smaller side with no bath - but it is a cottage so that was expected.
Bute is a great Island to explore- Sally some of the places we'd have like to see like don't open till late March after Easter like Mount Stuart.
Jack and Kate the owners have a wealth of info to guide the visitor including their own recommendations and it is clearly apparent they love the island too. The cottage is full of lovely quirky home from home touches. Would love to go back to this wee gem.

“Perfect cottage by the sea - with seals!!”
Reviewed March 14, 2015 for a stay in March 2015

Tastefullly appointed cottage with truly stunning views. It's not often one can have tea in bed whilst watching the ferries go by! We enjoyed the wildlife, watching the glorious elemental weather change the pictures through the windows. We saw snow on the beach up to the water's edge followed by the bluest and sunniest of days. The seals at the end of the garden were a joy to watch. Despite some very cold days the cottage was always cosily warm. Bute is a beautiful Island and wherever you are the scenery is lovely. Only sorry we forgot to write good things in the visitors book - hope this makes up for it.

“Excellent holiday on a beautiful island”
Reviewed March 3, 2015 for a stay in October 2013

I have just booked a return to Montford Cottage following my stay there in October 2013. The cottage is really well appointed in a fabulous location close to the sea which is visible out of almost every window. I have visited Bute a few times over the years since spending a holiday there as a child but never explored the island. It is a beautiful island with soft rolling hills and spectacular views in every direction particularly to Arran. The cottage is only two miles from Mount Stuart house which is probably the most spectacular large house I have ever visited. Stella McCarney's wedding was held in the family chapel here. We are cyclists and the roads are perfect for days out on the bike and on one trip we met cows which were as friendly as horses which was really funny. Can't wait to go back.

“Fantastic Holiday Cottage - Great Location”
Reviewed September 28, 2014 for a stay in September 2014

This is the 3rd time we have stayed at Montford Cottage, on the wonderful Isle of Bute. Our first visit was in May 2013 when we stayed for a week, our 2nd visit was for 2 weeks in May 2014, and our 3rd visit for a further 2 weeks was in September 2014. Although our September break was unfortunately cut short after only 6 blissful days (due to family illness at home) - the time spent at Montford Cottage was a dream. Although only a 5 minutes drive from Rothesay (which has shops, restaurants, Rothesay Castle, Museum, the Marvellous Discovery Centre), the Cottage feels a million miles away. From all rooms a view of the Clyde can be seen, with frequent views of wildlife (seals, otters, swans etc). The cottage has everything you need, particularly with the new addition of a washing machine. It is a really comfortable, quiet, warm cottage with spectacular views. We cannot wait to return..

“I wouldn't tell my worst enemy about this one - but I shall be telling my friends!”
Reviewed July 20, 2014 for a stay in July 2014

Very tastefully and comfortably set up to make guests feel 'at home at sea'. The view while washing up (as well as from the lounge) was fantastic with constant interest generated by all the wildlife - ducklings, cygnets, gannets, mouse and otter, to mention just a few. An easy place to go out from to explore the rest of the island, a haven for those wanting to see and enjoy countryside, wildlife and walks, as well as to enjoy with children,

“A picturesque, seaside cottage away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.”
Reviewed November 29, 2013 for a stay in December 2012

We stayed at Montford Cottage for one week over the 2012 Christmas period and what an amazing time we had. We were told about Montford by a family member who had stayed over the summer with her family; she told us to go and see for ourselves what an idyllic getaway this lovely cottage offered.
The cottage itself is beautiful inside and out; it was spotlessly clean and the kitchen was very well-equipped meaning we spent several evenings eating-in; the lounge boasts amazing sea views which can be viewed from the dining table! When we didn't eat in, we chose to visit several of Bute's pubs, restaurants and tea rooms, as recommended to us from the cottage's guest book; all of these were places were would choose to visit again, in particular, The Kingarth Hotel and No. 29 restaurant.
The cottage has two good-sized bedrooms and, although it is located by the coast road, the volume of traffic is so low and the cottage so well insulated, we were never disturbed by noise.
The Isle of Bute is somewhere we had never even heard of before booking Montford, but when it was described to us as a peaceful, picturesque island with an abundance of beaches and countryside walks, we felt it ticked every box and, needless to say, we weren't disappointed. On several occasions, when we visited the Isle's beaches, we were the only people there and were able to take in the breathtaking coastal views and beautiful countryside completely undisturbed, including spending several hours watching the infamous Bute seals who at times chose to bask and swim on the shore, literally a few metres away from where we sat! We have already booked to return this year and would recommend it to anyone, couples or families, looking for a picturesque seaside cottage location away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
