We came for pride and heard about these and thought let’s have a nosey! It’s like walking back in time and worth spending a penny or two

Right on the pier as you leave the ferry, the Victorian toilets are housed in a quite unpretentious looking building. For an admission price of 40 pence one can marvel at the blue and white magnificence of the gents’ toilet -you also receive a leaflet describing the history of the place.
Unfortunately, the ladies toilet is quite modern - it would seem that the Victorians did not give the same degree of importance to the ladies’ requirements.
If things are quiet, and you ask nicely, the ladies might be permitted a quick peek inside the gents.

Had to wait to get in until there were no men in there as it is only the mens that have been done up. Really worth a visit.

The 'building stands on the quay beside the ferry waiting area and has a 'Ladies' that is spotless and modern however the 'Gentlemen' is the highest expression of Victorian splendour and expertise. Everything is perfectly preserved and seems to have inspired one of the 'Harry Potter' films - 'Chamber of Secrets'. Only 40p for a view and even the most sceptical will be converted.

Whllst waiting for the ferry, the kids (ages 9 and 4) decided they needed the loo. I took them in what was advertised as toilets....theyre more than that. On this occasion it was bad for us.
its 40p to use the facilities and free for kids.
in this instance the kids were desperate but we didnt have any money on us only card. I was not allowed into the toilets as i could pay the 40p charge so i have to rely on my eldest helping my youngest. The lady manning the reception desk said if i went into help the kids she would have to pay it herself so didnt let me in.
The mens toilets are stunning (from what i saw through the crack in the door) the womens are more basic i think. i wouldnt know because i didnt have any money and had to wait till be got on the ferry
