this hotel must have been an amazing place to stay at one time ,now its a bit faded and in need of refurbishment on a massive scale but on saying that we really enjoyed our weekend stay there and will go back and stay again. We liked the atmosphere in the hotel and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. But without a doubt the star of the show was the great view from our room! AMAZING!! looking forward to our next visit

Room Tip: ask for a sea view

My friend and I have just spent a week at the Bay Glenburn in Rothesay and can only say how much we have enjoyed it. On arriving on the Ferry on the Shearings Coach we could see the Glenburn which stands out amongst the other properties on the front at Rothesay. It is a magnificent building both inside and out. Some parts of the hotel do need upgrading but the majority of it is very acceptable.
We found reception to be adequate - not over friendly/helpful.
Our room was quite large, adequately furnished and clean. Our window faced out from the side and we had lovely views of the ferries and boats coming and going.
The restuarant staff work so hard and all meals were served hot and on 'hot plates' (rare these days!!) There was an excellent choice of meals, all served very quickly. No waiting around here!!
There is a fantastic new ballroom/entertainment room - the best I have seen in any Shearings Hotel and the entertainers were excellent, especially Gary McKean, the compere/entertainer, who can turn his hand to anything - his Elvis impersonation was brilliant!! Another to compliment was James Knight who sang songs from the musicals - why he is in the hotel and not in the West End I dont know - he was brilliant!! All the bar staff were extremely friendly and pleasant.
Rothesay and the Isle of Bute are beautiful. The views from the hotel windows are outstanding and best of all there were deer on the front lawn one morning!!
Overall we would rate this hotel as one of the best of Shearings we have been to, however, there are a couple of little things that did bother us but were overcome - firstly, the fact that there were no optional excursions and we had over 3 days to find our own way about which we did via ferry/train to Glasgow and Largs. Secondly the fact we only had 3 channels on the TV which is still the small box type set and not a flat screen - you get used to it after a few days.
Would definitely recommend it and hope to return one day!!

Loved the review !!. Many thanks for the fanatastic review, I'll be be sure to let the staff know how much you enjoyed your break at the Glenburn, especially Gary and James. We're very lucky to have varied entertainment. As for those deer, they are great to see, I just wish they'd stop eating the flowers in my garden! There's no fear in them at all, one followed me along the front of the hotel and a guest asked if it was a pet. Once again many thanks.

This was our first holiday in Rothesay and it was very peaceful and enjoyable. The hotel is in reasonable condition and we had an excellent spacious room with panoramic views over the harbour and Kyles of Bute. Reception were polite, if not over friendly, but the bar staff were good and the restaurant staff superb. Food was of a high standard and served very promptly. The entertainment was very good although the compere John. an excellent guitarist, did not seem to be enjoying himself and seemed to forget he was being paid to entertain the paying customers! Overall good value for money and we shall certainly return. There are many places of interest to visit on the island and cruises on The Waverley are good value.

Room Tip: We paid a supplement for a sea view but it was worth it.
