we are just back from a weekend at the glenburn hotel on a caledonian travel coach trip . the hotel is quite big and sits on top of a hill and the views were gorgeous !!!!! we asked for a sea view room after recomendations from other trip advisor reviews and it was well worth the extra £5 a night per person as we got a large twin room overlooking the sea and mountains we were very pleased with the room on the 3rd floor, the only complaint we had was the shower. there were notices saying "warning very hot water" but the mixer shower was useless as it kept going from hot to cold while you were trying to shower! we thought the meals were very good plenty of choice and the service was excellent the hotel was pretty full and the waiters and waitresses who mainly seemed to be polish were very pleasant and could not do enough for you they are a credit to this hotel. there was entertainment on each night of a resonable quality too (i even won £2.50 on bingo night! must make sure i dont spend it all at once ha ha!!! the only thing most of us had to comment on on the trip home was how run down rothsay was and there was nothing to do so a bit disapointing on the whole. but we had a nice chill out weekend and read 2 books which i would not have the chance to do at home.

Room Tip: pay extra for a sea view we had a twin as the doubles were all booked but listening to the others in our party who has doubles the could not swing a cat in - our room was huge we were more than satisfied we were on top floor room 310

Thank you very much for posting your comments on our Tripadvisor site, I'm delighted that you have enjoyed your stay and were impressed with the views from the hotel, we are really lucky with the outlook that we have. I'm disappointed to see your comments on Rothesay, there really is a great deal to do on the island and if you had asked at the hotel or gone to the Discovery Centre in the town then I'm sure we could have given you a different view of things. Perhaps on your next visit.

The hotel is in an excellent position , But in need of a major overhaul. The Eastern European staff Do their best , On the whole. But cannot , And in some cases , Do not want to be polite. Especially the Polish lad at the bar. I wonder at the number of disabled people on these Breaks . And how they would cope in an Emergencey, As you cannot use the lift in case of Fire. Getting on and off the coach could take forever, Whilst they manouver with sticks etc. . Also the time wasted at the change over points is unwarrented. We have just done our LAST Shearinski BAY BREAK .

Room Tip: Ask for the option of having heating in the room. And a working heated Towel rail,.

It is disappointing to read comments such as yours; I seem to remember back in history another man with such an intolerable attitude to disabled people and thinly veiled racism towards foreign people, I beleive his name was Hitler. With regards the using of the lift, if there was a fire we have measures in place to ensure the safety of any disabled guests, and I think you'll find that it is fairly universal in any building with lifts for this instruction that they should not be used in the event of a fire, as the power may be cut off resulting in people being trapped. Common sense really. The heating and the towel rail do work, perhaps you hadn't realised that these appliances may need to turned on as the previous guests may have turned them off.

If you want a late drink here you will be unlucky as the bar closes at 11 05 pm each evening. Also our party missed out on the pre dinner drinks on two occasions as there was none left. The new voucher system is yet another loser going on comments from other guests.Time to return to the old system of a free three hour bar for the evening.

Thank you very much for posting your comments on our site and for giving me the opportunity to respond. As you may be aware the inclusive bar finished at 10.30pm, however the bar stays open for anyone still wishing to purchase drinks, should there be no one wishing to do so then we do close the bar rather than have staff on duty. However we do call last orders before we close the bar giving anyone a final opportunity to purchase drinks before we close. This does not happen till around 11.20-11.30. I can only assume that if as you say the bar was closed by 11.05 that none of your fellow guests had availed themselves of the cash bar. We offered a glass of wine with dinner and if you had let the bar staff know that you had not received one they would have been only too happy to make sure you got your complementry glass of wine. Unfortunately I must disagree with you regarding the vouchers, we have certainly not found it to be a loser, and as you may have seen from many previous postings more people appreciate the voucher system, where they can use it through the day, rather then the frantic rush as many guests try to drink as much as they can during the inclusive hours. It also helps us in encouraging a more responsable attitude to drinking

As we were early and unable to access our room until 3pm we ordered a bar meal in the very large spacious lounge. I had Venison, Duck & Pheasant pate - delicious!

Elegant lounge with very high ceilings with both large sash windows and french doors overlooking the verandah with a panoramic sea view.

Such a dreadful shame that the windows had not been cleaned and judging by the muck and cobwebs in the frames when we ventured onto the verandah, obviously not for some months!

We had a large spacious twin on the 2nd floor which although virtually opposite the lift was quiet enough.

The food was good and the staff excellent.

The major problem for us both was the very low, dreadfully uncomfortable divan beds! Horrendous!

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room Arrive early as very limited parking

Thank you very much for your comments on our site, I'm pleased to see that you have enjoyed your stay, however I would like to apologise for your not being comfortable in your beds. Unfortunately being in such close proximity to the sea and with the strong winds we have experienced through the winter the windows do tend to get covered with the salt in the air. Once again thanks for taking the time to post your comments

We have just returned from 5 day trip toGlenburn Hotel Rothesay from Yorkshire. Once again we have had a great time! Even the weather was lovely! Our driver, Alan, was great ( his knowledge of the Island unbelievable) polite at all times and a wonderful dry wit!! The hotel is lovely. The service especially in dining room excellent! The new entertainment venue very good. The new drinks voucher system much better if only to avoid the people who must get as much as they can for nothing!!! Thankyou Shearings for another great break! We are at this minute planning our next trip!

Room Tip: We were on the ground floor in the annexe. good view over the Bay. Did miss the character of main rooms but did not deter from holiday. Wonderful for anyone with walking problems.
