We had arrived on Bute to walk near Kilchattan Bay but had just missed the bus. So we stomped up to Canada Hill and on return we saw a sign for these gardens. We were totally unprepared for the riot of colour inside the low key entrance. The gardens are beautifully laid out and maintained to a very high standard. The pond areas and the aviary are a lovely contrast to the formal beds. The glasshouses especially the cactii one are very impressive. This was a lovely space to spend an hour or so in tranquil surrounding and it was all free. Shhhhhhhhh ! Keep it a secret - seriously if you are on Bute do make the effort to seek out these superb gardens. They are only open from 1st May to 30th September.
