We have eaten at No 29 several times since it opened last year and have never been disappointed. The portion sizes are more than generous and I personally cannot eat more than 2 courses. As a resident of the Isle of Bute it is wonderful to have a restaurant of this quality. We really needed somewhere else to eat as good places are rather thin on the ground. The previous 2 reviews must have been written by people who are very hard to please and I think they paint the wrong sort of picture of No 29. The staff are friendly but professional and the food is locally sourced and cooked with flair and imagination. Finally, at the time of writing this, No 29 doesn't have a licence so you can take your own booze! What could be better!

No.29 has changed very little since the new owners have taken over in 2012.
The menu and quality of food are good, however this is greatly let down by the TINY portion sizes.
For starters we both opted for the scallops. Priced at £10 for a starter I had high expectations but was very disappointed to be served only three HALF scallops on a very small bed of black pudding. For the main we had the the steak priced at £20, again for the price I may not have expected a prime fillet but possibly a sirloin but instead it was a much lesser cut, all be it quiet nicely cooked. The desert I had the cheese board which came nicely presented on an old roofing slate, it came with four old, soft mini-oatcakes and three of the thinest pieces of cheese I had ever seen on a single plate one plate, each piece fitted nicely on a half oatcake which only left me wondering what to do with the remaining two and a half soft oatcakes. Nevermind they were returned to the kitchen, no doubt to be recycled for the next unsuspecting dinner.
Whilst I had no complaint about the quality of the food which was served, I found the entire meal greatly over priced for what you get !
We have now visited the restaurant on two occasions and on both occasions enjoyed the meal but after having a full three courses, left feeling hungry and cheated at the price we had paid for what we had received.
Disappointed. Sorry....Won't be back.

Finally a resteraunt on Bute that serves local food, that tastes incredible and a really welcoming atmosphere. We have eaten here a number of times now and everytime we are spoilt for choice on the menu, which is updated weekly.
Every mouthfull is packed with flavours. Loved the oxtail bonbons that came with the lamb, blade of beef is incredible and the starters are a treat on the taste buds. Finally a resteraunt we can highly recommend to visitors.

Definitely one of the better restaurants in Rothesay, food is good and reasonably priced. Have only been in for lunch but hoping to get down to try out your Tuesday tapas!

We had heard such good reports about No 29 we were prepared to be disappointed but to our relief and delight it surpassed our expectations!
Warm and welcoming service from Mel was followed by THE best food we've eaten in our 7 years of coming to Bute!
With all local produce as fresh as can be, cooked to perfection, this I'd an Island Gem the equal of any City Centre Restaurant of repute, very reasonably priced, and it's BYO as well!
We have waited a long time for something like this and we really hope it is well supported and treasured for the long term.
We will be returning each time we return.
Well done!!
