“Very understanding”
Reviewed July 6, 2012 via mobile

Unfortunately I had to cancel my booking because a member of my family were taken ill and couldn't make the trip to Rothesay. The staff were really understanding and allowed us to cancel the booking.

Friends have stayed here before and said it is great disappointed but looking to rebook my trip very soon.

We stayed at the hotel recently and it was a wonderful boutique hotel with a fantastic restaurant. Both the service and food were first class - good enough to eat in every night, and in a lovely setting ideally suited to either staying in or heading out afterwards.
The rooms are extremely comfortable and the hosts are able to cater for every need and went out of their way to make sure our stay was perfect. The living room has a great view of the sea and it was nice to be able to relax in a comfortable setting.
I would recommend Cannon House as a must stay on the island; both Fiona and Graham have the perfect hotel for a perfect stay.

The location of the hotel could not be better with easy access to the town centre (disappointing) and out around the island. The owners really are 'hand on' and went out of their way to ensure a most enjoyable overnight stay. The sea facing room (suite) was spacious and most comfortable. The lounge / bar area is best described as cosy and fits in so well with the character of the property. Dinner was excellent with a good choice of dishes - all very reasonably priced - and my locally butchered filet steak was one of the best ever. Mount Stewart was fantastic and we were equally impressed by Ardencraig Gardens which we visited on the recommendation of the hotel.

I work for a national airline and came to rothesay for the wknd ,lookin for some "quality " dining , we found it at the cannon !! The food: fantastic , the wine choice , again fantastic ( lovely chablis at at great price ) but utmost the ambience ! I felt as if i was in a georgian town house . The service and most importantly , pace of service was excellent , as a treat its a no brainer !!

My partner and I travelled to Bute for a relaxing weekend away recently. Cannon House Hotel was just what we wanted - very cosy and classic. We received a lovely warm welcome. We stayed in Room 5 which has stunning views of the sea and was very comfortable.

Breakfast was delicious - good choice and perfectly cooked.

We hope to return soon!

I have just come back from Cannon House, Isle of Bute and had to write a review. We had very good weather and it was great to be back on the island. Everything at Cannon House was superb, very friendly staff, fantastic food and elegant rooms. There was a real mix of guests and the restaurant appeared to be a real favorite with locals. We used Graham and Fiona as guides for what to do and where to go on the island and felt utterly relaxed and charmed throughout our stay, looking to rebook again...

Our 10th visit to Cannon House (this speaks for itself) and a usual warm welcome from Graham and Fiona . Arrived late afternoon but Fiona was more than happy to accommodate us for an evening meal. Good fresh local ingredients and home cooking are a main staple of Fiona's dinners and it did not disappoint. Nothing better than to sit and watch the ferries and small boats pull in and out of the nearby harbour with the hills in the background and a glass of Graham's finest wine - who needs the Italian Lakes!!!! Our bedroom (a suite) is large and comfy with views over the dramatic garden and a seaview to the front. Breakfast as usual (other options available) full "Scottish" featuring black pudding and potato scone all cooked to perfection. A wonderful 5 days with lots of walking and sightseeing (always somewhere different to explore). Graham has all the local knowledge (despite being an Englishman) on all the best places to visit. Looking forward to next year already!!!!
