A sense of remoteness, community and hardship for islanders in days of old. Enjoyed the expansive views on a crystal clear day too.

You have to make an effort to get to St Blanes - it's at the end of a long, narrow road right in the south of Bute and once you've parked, it's a 10 minute walk up a hill to get there. But it's worth it. The place has its own atmosphere and the remains are remarkably well preserved. The interpretation by Historic Scotland is also very good.

St Blane's chapel is one of the most beautiful and tranquil places on Bute. Park in the lay-by along the fence at the end of the road past Dunagoil. Do not park in the turning area. Walk up the newly constructed path to the chapel gate. The new path means that what could be a muddy walk is now dry. The path does not extend all the way to the chapel as it is a Scheduled Monument. The route to the chapel is grassy and a bit steep but well worth it.

well worth a visit, better though on a nice sunny day, small walk of about 100m to get there when you get off the bus

St Blanes Chapel is perhaps the oldest building on Bute. Take the road from Rothesay to Dunagoil and park in the carpark at the roadend. You then have a 10 minute stroll slightly uphill through the signposted field, but it is well worth it. I do not need to say more, but my advice is when you get there you will feel such quietness and peace
