Authentic and cosy with tasty hearty food and a warm welcome. Well worth a visit, would return when back in Rothesay

Lots of sailing people using this Russian restaurant as its so close to the marina. A three course meal was about £20 and we thought very good value. They had Erdinger Weissebeer on tap too. Try the Russian Vodka with herbs from Siberia.

My wife and I recently visited the Russian Tavern for dinner on Fri 22nd June and had a wonderful experience in terms of food and hospitality from the owner. We did have the restuarant to ourselves (I believe due to the very poor weather that day), however the personal service and friendliness we received from the owner was excellent. There was a fixed price menu available with a choice of 3/4 starters, 3/4 mains and similiar amount of desserts. The quality of the food was excellent, obviously very fresh (no ding ding microwave dinners here!) and would definitely recommend a visit. The owner also had a very good range of beers available. I think what made our experience that much better is the owner is a bit quirky (i mean that as a compliment), he judged his audience, made us feel at home, gave us a bit of history of the restuarant, of Bute itself, provided us both with a complimentary vodka - he just made us feel right at home and have a really nice dining experience. The bottom line is that we will definitely return on our next visit to Port Bannatyne.

Just as in a tavern in Russia we were welcomed and sat at the plain timber tables looking out over the yacht bay at Port Bannatyne. The Russian beer was served in frozen glasses and the short menu was freshly made and served with bread hot from the oven. A lot of banter and friendly joshing, and much useful information for us cruising yachties. It's just 50 yards from Port Bannatyne Marina which is a great stopover sailing in these parts. Thoroughly enjoyable and without all that fake deference that makes so many restaurants in Scotland "creepy"!

I live around the corner so try and go for dinner when ever I can. I went on Thursday night 24/Nov/11 and had a great evening and the food as ever was great. The beer is good the fish local and fresh (I had the Scallops). Try the Honey Vodka like the food it is amazingly good.
