I first stumbled across the Kames Hotel on a late autumn night. It was too late to continue my journey and was somewhat anxious as my usual Argyll haunt was full.
I was soon put at ease by Shelley who went out of her way to make sure a room was made ready for me in-spite of my unexpected check-in.
The Kames has two halves with the hotel side offering comfortable and stylish boutique style accommodation and a sophisticated dining room, whilst the public bar acts as a lively centre for the village. With a number of different rooms it is possible to find a quiet snug corner for a chat, or to head into the main bar for some friendly craic.
I enjoyed an excellent dinner of fresh Loch Fyne scallops followed by a tender slow roasted brisket before making myself at home in the well-stocked Malt Whisky bar. Before long I was brought into conversation by the locals and staff – I haven’t laughed so much in years.
I’ve been back with friends since and we had a great time. I would definitely recommend this place to others.
(PS Special thanks to John the barman who ran home to get tomatoes from his poly-tunnel to go with my salad!)
