Just spent an amazing Hogmanay (New Years Eve) at the Kames Hotel. We began the evening with dinner in the wonderfully candle lit restaurant and although it was packed, the food was absolutely delightful. In our party of 9 we had 2 vegetarians and a vegan with some food allergies and the owners just couldn't have been more accommodating, producing exceptional food for all. The menu was imaginative using a lot of local produce and my starter of carpaccio of venison was outstanding. There is a good wine list and our choices were enjoyed by all. After a lovely relaxing evening we welcomed in the New Year with fireworks and a traditional piper. What an amazing experience.
5 of our party stayed for 2 nights in the Kames Hotel and they are enthusiastic in their praise of a wonderful small Hotel run by people with skill and imagination.
The Kames Hotel looks out on the waters of the Kyles of Bute and is set in an area of exceptional beauty and the location combined with the welcome offered by the owners and staff makes this an exceptionally special place to visit.

Stayed December 2012 - This hotel is located in an area of outstanding beauty - if you run, walk, cycle or just enjoy being out and about the location can't be beat. Excellent 10 mile loop has to be my favourite all time run!
Hotel is clean tidy and all the staff are super friendly - great stay and would recomend to family and friends.

As we were here 'off season' we got the Superior room at the standard room rate of £90.00 per room, and it was lovely. The room looked out over the bay, which was stunning. The meals were all served in the bar area, but it was very pleasant and cosy. A good selection on the menu, and the food was well cooked and generous portions. We had a lovely cooked breakfast looking out across the bay. The hotel is a little tired looking, but the staff are friendly and very welcoming, I would stay again.

Room Tip: Definitely worth getting a sea view room, as you can lie in bed and look out across the bay.

Thank you so much for putting a review on here - we're really glad you enjoyed your stay and liked the area. I have passed your lovely comments on to the team. And you're right, the hotel is definitely due for a redecoration this winter! We invested in a new boiler & hot water system last year and now plan to 'spruce up' in time for the spring. We do hope you'll get an opportunity to come back and visit again and see what we've done with the place - best regards Pat & Shelley

Stayed here last weekend with our (well behaved) dog.
Room cosy, clean and did the job. Busy pub/restaurant downstairs but couldn't hear any noise from bedroom.
Food & beer good, awesome views from room. Very welcoming.

Room Tip: We booked at last minute. On top floor in small but cosy room.

Stayed there last night as had looked at the new hotel and marina at Portavadie which was very nice, but it had no atmosphere, so decided to go to the Kames hotel which I knew from years ago. Pat the owner and his staff are brilliant. Great banter and the meals are superb for the price, the rib eye steaks are succulent with a great garnish. Breakfast wash a full Scottish one, and not swimming in grease, rooms are very comfortable, both looking onto the Loch and onto the garden, rooms are warm and plenty of hot water. There is a lovely bar with some very colourful characters and the banter was great. Some other local owned hotels should take a leaf out of Pat's very pleasant manner and Dave the barman are so welcoming. The lady at reception was so welcoming, big smile and even all the other guest commented on how much they liked the place. Well done Pat, Sandy and myself will be back and probably with a big group of friends. See you soon.

Room Tip: I had garden view, which was nice, and my friend had a loch view that was stunning. The hotel also h...

We stayed at the Kames Hotel in mid August - wonderful hospitality, great food, the restaurant and bar reassuringly full on a Friday night - when it's full of locals, you know as a visitor, that you're on to a good thing! Our meals were very tasty, and the Scottish breakfasts lived up to their reputation. We hope to be able to return sooner rather than later! Beautiful views across the loch. Penny & Craig McMillan

Room Tip: The sea views were lovely from the front. Lots of hot water, though we'd arrived late. sumptuou...
