Lucky us! We go every year to a house within staggering distance of this wonderful centre of village life. Every evening we play pool in the bar (afternoons too if the weather turns). It's a wonderful mix of locals and visitors and the food is great and the service is even better. And yes, there's a chap called Tom, with a beard and an eyepatch. Sadly he doesn't say "blistering barnacles!", but a more couthy Scottish expletive! Oh, yes, view great and even the midges seem to stay away. We're back next year, can't wait.

My partner and myself where traveling up to oban in our motorhome and decided to park up over night at Kames. As i have passed through that way before.
Thought that i would treat my good Lady Wendy to a bar meal at the kames hotel.
and please let me say that i could not speak highly enough of the bar, as it had live music,
And the food was first class trust me if you are passing that way it is well worth your while to stop off and sample the food first class....

Booked this hotel a few days before so too late for the sea view rooms but our room was excellent nonetheless. Recommend this hotel highly. It sits right on the shore with wonderful views right across the Kyles of Bute. Our room was large and bright with ensuite shower room (toiletries provided) and the public areas of the hotel were ideal - lots of quirky sections where you could chat with the locals in the bigger bar or sit quietly in comfy surroundings. We ate dinner in the restaurant which was lit by loads of candles on the huge mantlepiece. Lovely atmosphere and the food was all freshly cooked with local produce - great price range and value for money. Breakfast was freshly cooked to order with local butcher produce - you could taste the difference! The owners are very much in evidence and all staff were very friendly and efficient. Don't miss this hotel if you are in the area.

Very helpful and friendly staff (sorted a landline for a business call when our mobile didn't work); decor is lovely throughout the hotel (modern, quirky meets traditional). Relaxed, nice bar and lovely views. Excellent for a short break to get away from it all - would recommend very highly.

The rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful - even helped me get my Netbook on to the free wifi. The evening meal I had a large piece of fish with the lightest crisp batter coating with home made chips and mushy peas. The best I have ever had! View is spectacular across the loch to the hills; the hotel is surrounded by well maintained old stone cottages,a beautiful place, worth the effort to get there.

What a delightful place! A small, well-kept hotel with fabulous sea view of the Kyle of Bute (or the back garden if the seafront rooms are full). Rooms were clean and modern, staff (mostly owners) were great hosts, food was local and well-prepared (loved the steak pie and mushroom soup after a wet trek on the Cowal Way). Has a menu of 50 (!!) malts (whiskey), and a dram in the morning before a walk in the mist started the day right. Donald's fishing boat on the Kyle (name of the waterway around the island Bute) comes with tea, there's an emerald green golf course, if a wee marshy, on the hill, and Dunan Castle is worth the trip nearby on one-lane (!) roads. Absolutely magical.

We stayed for one night in August (a couple in our 40s with our daughter and her boyfriend) and we all thought it was a fantastic hotel. The rooms had been upgraded prior to our arrival, both had beautiful sea views, and were spacious and clean. Dinner was fabulous, Scallops with black pudding, mussels and brisket of beef are all highly recommended, as are the chocolate brownies and the cheese board. The bar is obviously the hub of the local community and we enjoyed watching the football near the lively pool table. The other end of the bar was much quieter for those looking for a peaceful drink, however the pool bar quietened down considerably later anyway. Beds very comfortable, we all slept well - although the whisky might had had something to do with that! Breakfast was leisurely and filling. Well worth the drive down the peninsula to get there, we'd definitely stay again if visiting Argyll again.

Room Tip: Room 4 has lots of windows and the best views!
