“Could rival the best of Glasgow's restaurants!”
Reviewed August 8, 2011

Great small restaurant.

Read the good reviews on tripadvisor and booked the restaurant on this basis during our weekend in Tighnabruaich - definately a good move.

Wine list is small but no problem, we just went for the house red which was lovely.

For starter we shared laungoustines with a garlic mayo dip - AMAZING! Fresh and delicious. For main course, I had a rare fillet steak with pepper sauce - cooked to perfection, my other half had scallops. We shared a bit of both and the scallops were great too. For desert we had what may be the best banoffee pie I have come accross!

Only downside is that in parts the decor (black tiles) could do with updating.

Overall, this is one of the best meals out I have had and can easily rival the best in Glasgow!

“Excellent, tasty homecooked food”
Reviewed August 4, 2011

Having dined here on many occasions over the years , I can only say what a pleasure it is to eat here. We have eaten breakfast , lunch and dinner (not all on the same day) and the quality and quantity of the food is superb. If you enjoy hearty , freshly cooked and piping hot food served on molten lava plates , this is the place for you.

“The most amazing lamb shank there ever was!”
Reviewed July 10, 2011

For once, we actually listened to my brother-in-law when choosing where to eat during our stay at Tighnabruaich.... and dare I say it he was right :-)

Burnside Bistro is Tighnabruaich's little treasure, I only wish we didn't live a 180 mile round trip away so that we could become regulars!

The food was outstanding (I can personally vouch for the haggis stuffed mushrooms which had a lovely light tempura-like batter, lamb shank which was so amazingly tender and tasty, the eton mess which had the lovely chewy meringue and the lovely fruity Prosecco!), the location was outstanding and the service was personable and unhurried.

We cannot recommend it enough and hope to find an excuse to come back to the area! x

ps as other reviewers have said, there is no credit card facilities, be sure to pack your cheque book :-)

“Great Cakes!”
Reviewed October 23, 2010

Popping in the Bistro for a coffee and a cake in the afternoon was one of the high-lights of our stay. The meringues left cooling on the bar wafted their just cooked, sweet aroma around the small bistro and out of the door to entice customers in.

If that were not enough then a glimpse through the open door from the street shows the cabinet of cakes on display. It's like weapons of mass distraction being used on your tastebuds!

On the strength of our afternoon teas we went for an evening meal but found the food cooked with just a little too much cream and butter as everything was very rich.

So, our rating for this bistro is mostly based on our afternoon visits and not the one evening meal we had.

Also, as another review has already pointed out, they do not take credit cards and with no cashpoint in the town you may find that that old fashioned cheque book comes in handy.
