While it was a challenge to get there (lots of single-track roads) it was worth the journey. The cottage itself was beautiful and clean, with plenty of room for at least 11 people.
Upon arrival it was fully stocked with towels, extra bedding, toilet roll, spices, teas, coffee, etc. and even had table tennis and darts in one of the external buildings. Lovely log fire, plenty of blankets and hot water which made it perfect for the rainier days.
The only downsides were that the cottage wasn’t as remote as it appears in the photos, check out time was pretty early at 10am, and WiFi service was poor (was supposed to be 1gb per day but cut off after 400mb and did not work at all on some days) but with such beautiful scenery and plenty of books, DVDs and board games this is merely a minor inconvenience.
Thank you for a lovely holiday! Would definitely book again.
Having recently stayed at Glenhurich Lodge I felt the need to pen a review. The Lodge itself was amazing. Perfect for a group of friends, or 2 families. I did not have the family with me on this occasion but I'm certain the children would have loved the garden, and the surrounding forest. Everything was spotless, and everything in place for a very comfortable stay. The beds and pillows were so comfortable and the log burner so welcoming. All the bedrooms are very generous, and the large dining table in the kitchen was perfect for sitting down to a full Scottish breakfast.
Wildlife in the area is truly abundant. Willow Warblers on every treetop and Siskins and Blackcaps coming for the bird food every day. We had amazing views of an Adult White-Tailed Sea Eagle over the hill next to the Lodge, and Black-Throated Divers are resident on Loch Shiel. The biggest surprise however came on our last evening at 7 p.m. An absolutely stunning Pine Marten came down and fed on the patio table. He clearly has a taste for jam sandwiches and peanuts.
Strontian is a short but wonderfully scenic drive away, and has all the amenities required. Keep an eye out for the Red Deer on the way over. I can recommend the fish and chips in the local cafe. For days out I'd recommend a boat trip on Loch Shiel. We went from Acharacle to Glen Finnan where the Harry Potter Bridge can be seen. Mike Tomkies' Wildernesse was of more interest to us though. His books were superb and bring the whole of the wildlife of the area to life. The boat trip is great value and the guides were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We also caught the ferry from Lochaline to Fishnish on Mull and spent the day there whilst also visiting Iona. The ferry from Kilchoan takes you straight to Tobermory which is great if you have children (Balamory). I can recommend Cafe Fish in Tobermory- superb seafood. We also visited the most westerly point of mainland UK at Ardnamurchan Point, and the fantastic beach at Sanna. On a previous visit to the area the children (and the adults!) thoroughly enjoyed taking the Harry Potter train (Jacobite Steam Train) from Fort William to Mallaig. Book early though to avoid disappointment.
Communication with Gordon was always fast, efficient and polite. A pleasure to communicate with. We've stayed lots of times in Scotland but Glenhurich Lodge has become my new favourite place to stay. Relaxing at the end of the day in the garden ,with a glass of wine, after a full day exploring Ardnamurchan, will remain a very fond memory. If I could give Gordon and his lovely home more than 5 stars then I certainly would.
Already looking forward to our next stay.
If you want seclusion, peace and quiet in high quality accommodation, then Glenhurich Lodge is an excellent choice. The lodge is stunning and has excellent facilities (although be prepared for more-or-less zero internet access for your stay) - it is located in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK, with fantastic walking, biking and other outdoors activities on your doorstep - and it's just as good to take a load of good food and drink and stay put! Well worth a visit, we will definitely be back!
This place is simply superb and deserves all the superlatives that have been thrown at it. The house itself is huge and very welcoming, the center of the house is the fantastic kitchen where we tended to gather. The living room has a roaring fire and is a great evening place to gather, read from the large library or play one of the many board games, there is a TV but we never turned it on, a testament to the house. The beds are incredibly comfortable and the bathrooms are spacious. The garden is fantastic with a babbling brook and the views around the house are stunning. Gordon provides a multitude of information and suggestions of things to do. He was very responsive on email and wiling to thoroughly answer additional questions. The housekeeper Marilyn is a joy and we loved chatting with her, she gave us some great tips too. The place is definitely remote and there is no cell phone service, but I recommend you embrace that and use it as an opportunity to disconnect completely and enjoy yourself. The walks around Polloch are many and vary in difficulty, so something for everyone. If you have a capable 4x4 you can also explore some of the forestry trails. We booked a boat tour from Polloch pontoon and was not disappointed, we saw white tail eagles and Jim the boat master is very knowledgeable on Loch Schiel. The landscape is breathtaking and we had an incredible time, just sorry we couldn't stay longer. I highly recommend you book this place, we plan to return.
Easy to book, great communication from the owner. The house is amazing, plenty of space for all our family. Dog friendly. Perfect for walking in unspoilt surroundings, even a loch nearby for swimming in. Marilyn the house keeper is friendly and helpful. Would definitely return again in the future.
A group of 12 family and friends gathered here for a long weekend to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday. There is so much space and the huge kitchen table was great to gather around. Plenty of outdoor space, we arranged our own Highland Games in the garden on the Saturday before scrubbing up for our formal dinner. We arranged for a private chef to come and cater for us that night. (Highland Kitchen - would highly recommend)
We loved our time at this comfortable and welcoming house, communications before and after were all spot on. Enjoyed a number of walks and just had a great weekend in a lovely large house that seems perfect to enjoy some time together in comfort with family and friends. A much talked about weekend and a place we intend to visit again.
Glenhurich Lodge couldn't be set in a more perfect spot. The lodge has been stylishly and tastefully decked out - they really have thought of everything for the most relaxing and fun stay to get away from it all. We have already booked another visit!
