My wife, Jack Russell Sunny and I stayed at Heron Cottage back in October and loved every minute.

We just wanted a week away, no distractions, where we could take Sunny for long walks without having to travel too far every day, and Kirnan House didn't disappoint. Even though it's a 7 hour drive from where we live, it was worth the effort!

The self catering cottage was great, spacious, clean and the open fire was well used every night.

The scenery around the house was amazing, as well as the coast which is only a short drive away.

The hosts were great, offering fantastic advise.

I work on business in Argyll and Bute, which lead me to use this B&B when I'm in the area and will continue to do so whenever I'm next up there!

Thanks you to the hosts for a great stay and hopefully we'll be back at Heron Cottage in October for more adventures!

Perfectly sited in historic Dalriada, if you wish to delve into Scotland's medieval past Kirnan is a place you will not be able to help but love. Accepting, scenery, history and all the high praise comments for the house itself, for us the host completed the package. Ross Appleyard is clearly a man who has lived & travelled, but now appreciates the lifestyle Kirnan provides. Expect when you arrive to get involved in the place and share experiences and you wont be disappointed. Ross we believe is a host who cares about people, and what makes them tick, he can work individuals out very quickly, and this in turn will ensure your stay is exactly what you want it to be. We look forward to a return trip, and to sample some more of his cooking which could grace the Masterchef screen very comfortably.

Our group of 12 friends and colleagues from all corners of the UK were hosted for a long weekend at the beautiful Kirnan Estate. The chef-proprietor Ross was a welcoming, friendly and accommodating host. The estate itself was a stunning example of Scotland's wild beauty and I fully intend to return and explore the grounds more fully. We had a day trip to Oban to visit the distillery and sample some of the fresher-than-fresh local seafood both of which were excellent! Ross provided some delicious home-grown food for our dinner and the venison casserole was one of the best I've had. Such a satisfying weekend of rural decadence and good cheer at a location that kept on surprising and delighting (ask about the gentlemen's thunder box!) for so many reasons. I rarely write reviews these days so a place has to be truly special (or awful!) to get me writing and Kirnan is indeed a special wee treasure.

Great weekend at Kirnan House. The location is incredible and just what you need if you want to get away from it all. The house and the accommodation itself was exceptional, food was delightful and Ross was incredibly hospitable throughout.

I recently visited Kirnan House B&B and had an excellent time. The surroundings are beautiful and one of the first thing I noticed when getting out of the car was how fresh the air was which instantly gives you a feeling of calm.

The house from the outside looks stunning and it doesn't let you down inside either. The place is absolutely immaculate which must be a difficult task considering the size of it.

The has plenty of room an amazing dinning area and a beautiful open fire. The food is absolutely stunning using a lot of fresh local produce, I couldn't have had a more perfect meal on each day I was staying there.

The owner is a really nice guy and extremely laid back, it was excellent fun having a sing song with him while he played guitar while sitting around the fire.

The room I stayed in was spot on. Plenty of space, TV, en-suite toilet shower and the bed was EXTREMELY comfortable which helped me have an excellent nights sleep.

The wildlife is amazing and I was told there was also some excellent salmon fishing locally.

This is the ideal place to visit if you have a bunch of friends that want a weekend away and I plan another trip here soon with my girlfriend.

Kirnan Cottage is a beautiful spot. We enjoyed our stay so much that we extended it an extra night. Our B&B room was clean and comfortable and the morning breakfasts were very tasty. There was always a freshly baked loaf of bread and a good coffee to get you going. Ross is an excellent host. He sized us up well and made some great recommendations on what to see. He even drove us an hour away for a boat trip of the Inner Hebrides which he also completely arranged. We felt like true guests to his home and were fortunate to enjoy his company on walks throughout the estate with his dogs. We were also very grateful for the use of his bicycles which helped us explore a very beautiful and historically rich region.

We recently had the pleasure of being guests at Kirnan House. We originally planned on staying two nights and stayed three. That should give a quick idea of how much we enjoyed our time there. This country estate is set high on a wooded hill among gardens, stream, and fields. Your host, Ross will take you for walks through the gardens, past ancient pines, up a path to cup and ring marks in the stones, and to the fields where his pigs, sheep and horses live their pleasant lives, not to mention the ducks and chickens- and a time challenged rooster- who wander about. If fishing is your passion, Ross has salmon streams for the offer. Our room was lovely with chandelier, warm duvet and scenic watercolors of locally inspired vistas. All of the breakfasts we ate in Scotland were good, but this was by far the best. Ross must take his cooking seriously and serves a full range of fresh eggs, bacon, sausages, freshly baked bread, tomatoes, mushrooms and all the morning cold foods. The coffee and tea are both excellent. Oh right, there are tea and real coffee in the rooms as well.
Ross knows the Lochgilphead area thoroughly and his recommendations of restaurants, pubs, cruises and other attractions kept us in the area an extra day.

Room Tip: The four poster room is so cosy.

Glad you liked the breakfast. We make our own bacon and sausages from pigs and venison from the estate and our chickens and ducks provide the eggs.
