“Great value for money”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

We stayed one night in the hotel, and had dinner and breakfast. Meals were lovely, and the portion sizes were great.

The hotel is in a great location, and is handy for both Glencoe and Fort William.

Staff were very friendly and welcoming.

Room was clean and comfortable. However, we were able to hear everything from neighbouring rooms. Also, the shower was either freezing cold or scalding hot. No happy medium. That said, as we were only staying one night, it didn't spoil our enjoyment.

This hotel has it all!! Stunning scenery, beautiful homely rooms, great food, especially the steak and ale pie.
The news owners are lovely, very welcoming and aware of your needs, the personal touch makes a huge difference!!
Peter plays the bagpipes as well and gave us a great rendition of mcphersons rant.
If you are on the west highland way this hotel is easily the best in kinlochleven. And I've stayed at them all.

Room Tip: Room six is the best!!!

We arrived on a cold and wet winters evening, without a reservation, and were fortunate to find the Macdonald had had a cancellation, so could accommodate us. We were particularly pleased with the welcome given to our elderly border collie, including his own plate of sausage freshly cooked for breakfast! Rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff we met very helpful and we will be back next year to enjoy the mountains.

My family and I have just spent the night at this hotel. Although quite basic, the rooms were very clean and comfortable. The staff were amazing, and particularly good with our children. We have a 2 year old boy who was thoroughly amused by all the toys available for him to play with, and our baby very much enjoyed the smiles and cuddles from the staff. We ate breakfast and Sunday lunch at the hotel, both were very tasty and good value for money. My only complaint would be the showers. Inconsistent flow of hot and cold meant jumping in and out of a flow that was either ice cold or roasting. Better than my dad though, who's shower had so little water coming out he had to rinse his hair with a cup. So, I'd advise you have a bath!

Can't beat the views though....stunning!

Excellent location and position. There isn't a great lot of things to do nearby but we found what we needed within the hotel. Beer was great (Trade Winds my fave), a great whisky range and meals well prepared, tasty and fair value for money. One complaint was that if you only wanted sausage and egg for breakfast you got one sausage and one egg, not a breakfast consisting of those ingredients. Never had this before. The breakfast was quite frugal but nothing to complain about.
Room was decent size, decor a bit dated but typically 'Scottish Hotel' and the TV was a bit of a waste of time- very small and few channels.
Pleased to say we weren't bothered too much by midges despite the fabulous weather. The huge range of midge products at reception was a wee bit worrying!
The lady of the manor was very friendly and helpful. Her staff were good but one night they were let down and short staffed. Despite this they rallied and service was not affected too much.
Location is perfect if you want to join the West Highland Way- it can be joined within 30 minutes or so by climbing the path on the opposite side of the road.
We would recommend this hotel.

Great location, stunning views and fantastic and friendly service. The best bit was the food, both breakfast and evening meals were terrific.

Ok this is not a five star hotel (thankfully), the decor is eccentrically 'Scotch', the shower took 5 mins to warm up and the TV in the room was on the small side but hell, you don't go to Kinlochleven to watch telly and the shower was both warm and wet.

I'll be back soon as there is tons of stuff to do in the area - it even has an indoor climbing/ice-climbing wall (a 40 ft indoor freezer!). the mountain-biking is fantastic and the views are gob-smacking.

This hotel is well-priced, friendly and in the middle of it all.

We have just stayed at this hotel with our dog. The hotel is very dog friendly and very welcoming of people too.

The location is ideal for attacking the mountains and lochs of the area or for easy going sightseeing.

Food is great and the hotel does great value dinner, bed and breakfast deals.

Rooms are comfortable and clean with all that you need.

All in all, a very good hotel in a great. Location with good food, good rooms and excellent staff.
Our dog really enjoyed it too.
