Well, I wrote about this hotel last year as it was the hotel chosen by my daughter for her Wedding. Well the Wedding was last weekend (10/11/12). We arrived on the Friday along with members of our family, We had a very pleasant afternoon and evening. waited on by the hotel staff, our every request executed in a timely fashion. The Wedding day arrived to a hive of activity, tables being laid to strict instruction given by my daughter the day before. a midst this activity the Hotel staff always managed to look after all our requests as the guests and the grooms family arrived. The Wedding ceremony went like clock work.
So to the meal, the standard was high,it is always a concern at this type of function that the meals are mediocre, this was certainly not. The Chef can be very proud of what was achieved here.Perfect. The evening event all went well, all conducted and assisted by the Hotel staff. The Sunday saw some of the family leaving and some staying over until Monday. The service and the meals received was again of a high standard. Several of our family and guests all remarking on how much they enjoyed the weekend and the service received. May I take this opportunity to thank the waiting staff Chef and the manager for a perfect weekend. Thank you.
To what is said in the other reviews, Yes, the hotel is in need of a little TLC and but have you looked at your own home, it does get used. And YES there are grander hotels, but you must always compare apples with apples. I have traveled form many years and stayed in many hotels
and this a pleasure to stay in

Room Tip: Checkout the Loch view rooms, The rooms above the reception have a loch view and are of old style. The ones over the Dinning room also have a loch view and are more modern with role top baths and walk in showers.

We booked on the spur of the moment for a two day break - we arrived late, but the hotel were excellent, serving dinner later for us.

The location is jaw droppingly pretty, and the hotel has a variety of lovely wee nooks and rooms with nice lighting or a fire to snuggle up to with a book. This is a location to go to in itself, not really a base for seeing other things.

The staff were friendly and helpful, the food of amazing quality.

As some other reviewers have noted, the hotel is at the end of a single track road, so don't go booting along too fast - to be honest, you will want to soak in the scenery anyway.

Room Tip: The Junior Suites are the ones to go for - the views of the loch are especially stunning.

We had a one night stay on a voucher deal and I think the cost was about right for the visit. When you turn off the main road the hotel is at the end of a seven mile single track road ..... it's remote.

We received a warm welcome on arrival and checked in without any hassle. Our room was on the small side but very nice with a huge bed and top quality bedding, a lovely view over Loch Awe. It also had a superb bathroom with roll-top bath. There was a small sherry filled decanter which we thought was a nice touch. The public room were cosy it a traditional Country House style although the Orangery is Spartan and lacks character.
In our view it is the eating arrangements that let this hotel down, we had a "bar meal" and the food was good but it was a choice of ONE dish, the main course priced at £18.50 and it had to be taken before 18:30pm. To be fair, the lady that checked us in rang the kitchen and arranged modifications to suit our tastes. The alternative is a pricey six course dinner which requires a leap-of-faith as it is a set menu for that day. If you have a wide and varied pallet I am sure it would be a fantastic eating experience, however if sea food it not to your taste or perhaps you don't like lamb, pork etc you could be in trouble. In a constructive way I would suggest that the hotel embraces a bigger menu which, in the long run, would be beneficial to the guests and business alike. On the plus side the breakfast was superb!!
The staff were all very pleasant and helpful although a bit thin on the ground particularly at night.
Would we go back .... probably not, however if wider eating options were available we would reconsider.

We got married in this hotel 8 years ago...loved it. Returned earlier this year with a 5pm deal. Initially made booking then they called back weeks later saying they were over booked...fine...but they said they would do me a favour and extend the period in which we could book!!!. The hotel is looking really tired which is such a shame. No staff around to serve at the bar...we had to go hunting to find a member of staff to get some drinks. Booked dinner in advance and the asked if we had any dietary requirements. My husband( is allergic to fish so I obviously mentioned this, however on arrival they said they had no note of this, when asked what they suggested they said that he could just miss that course.....no...not an option.... Proceeded to tell us that the chef only orders what he needs so not alternative. The chef did come up with an alternative .....which was amazing...just a shame it took a 20 minute debate with the manager to get to that point. Room was lovely but not a suite a large room with a small table and 2 chairs. Such a shame as this really could be an amazing hotel with some investment and some good staff.

We booked through the 5pm deal and then I saw some very disappointing reviews so was a little concerned. Well I need not have worried ! One of the nicest hotels I have stayed in , and I have stayed in lots ! Our junior suite was lovely and a stunning bathroom. Beautiful views from room and a little decanter of sherry to help you settle in. Our dog stayed and was made welcome and no fuss. We had the 6 course meal and although I wouldn't have picked some of it given the choice , i was glad I tried it as the food was fantastic. Wonderful drive to the hotel , lovely grounds , ten out of ten ! We will definitely be back. Thanks to all the staff as well , they were charming.
