We visited this hotel with friends and were given two beautifully upgraded rooms. The attention to detail cannot be understated with 'Spirited Soaps' toiletries, hospitality tray, etc. We ate dinner, together with breakfast and lunch on the next day and the quality of food is excellent. The staff were very friendly, courteous and helpful. We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to others.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on the top floor. We were in rooms 15 & 17.

There only is one hotel on Jura - this one - but lack of competition has certainly not had a negative effect on this gem of a hotel. The staff are friendly and attentive, the rooms are clean and comfortable with Wi-Fi (ours looked directly over the sea) and the food excellent.
I loved the lounge where you can unwind with a drink from the bar and either read a book or play the board games provided.
The only possible negative can be the weather - it rained for half our 2 day break - and the midges, but the overall beauty of Jura plus the hotel itself more than compensates.
Now, go and book your stay!

Room Tip: Ask for a seaview

This was another of our cycle tours of the Scottish Islands. We took the ferry to Port Askaig from Kennacraig then took the short crossing to Jura before cycling the eight miles to the hotel. We were greeted warmly by a young man and shown the hotel facilities, then taken up to our room. We had requested a sea view when booking (this costs about £5.00 a night more). The room (room 6 which you might read about in other reviews) had obviously just been refurbished as the en-suite was immaculate - so unusual to see perfect workmanship like this in a hotel - a fantastic power shower and excellent tiling on the walls and floor. The bedroom was also immaculate having been recently painted. The sea views are stunning - see attached photos. The guests' lounge and tv room are downstairs on either side of the dining room. There is access to the lounge bar (where you can eat if you want rather than the dining room) and also to the public bar. There is car parking to the side of the hotel, but no covered area for cycles. There is also an area for camping between the hotel and the shore which only requires a donation to pitch a tent.

We ate in the hotel on each of our three days (there are not really any alternatives on Jura except for a small tearoom along the road a bit). The meals on all three nights were excellent - there is a wide choice of starters, mains and desserts all at very reasonable prices (around £5, £9 and £5 respectively) which is excellent value considering there is no competition - we have been to other hotels where you are ripped off as there is no alternative to eating in the hotel. Wine was also well priced. Breakfast each morning was also excellent - enough to keep us going until dinner time! You have the choice of eating lunch and dinner in the bar or the dining room. The attention by the waiting staff was excellent at all times without being intrusive.

During our stay we found all the staff very friendly and helpful. The housekeeping staff kept the room immaculate during our stay, replenishing items without being asked.

In summary then I would recommend the hotel both for value and service. I think the owners are gradually refurbishing the hotel (and are making an excellent job of it) so it might be worthwhile when booking asking if your room has been refurbished or not. Our room did not have a television (which suited us but some people can not live without their tv!) and I do not know if other rooms have a tv - there is a tv lounge though with a large flat screen tv and freeview channels. Jura is a lovely peaceful island and the hotel complements this.

Room Tip: The seaview is well worth it. Also ask when booking if your room has been refurbished.

We stopped off at Craighouse on our way south for a pint and a bite to eat in one of the best pubs / hotels that offer a friendly service in a remote part of Scotland. The food was excellent as was the pint. The banter was great. After a pint or two we left for Port Ellen on Islay.
Always glad to drop in to this great pub.
