We stayed in the Ferguson Room which is a family room. The room is spacious and clean and has a small second bedroom ideal for a child.
We were served tea and delicious cakes on our arrival in the lounge which has a beautiful dual aspect views over Loch Fyne and the garden. A great deal of thought has gone into providing for the guests - helpful local information folders in each room, a selection of guidebooks in the lounge, a DVD library and player in each room, chocolates by the bed etc. The whole house has the feel of an elegant home.
Breakfast was lovely - we had fresh fruit salad and freshly prepared yoghurt, the traditional Scottish breakfast / poached eggs on toast and toast served with local preserves.

We had two rooms at Thistle House for 3 nights in August. We were welcomed by Jennifer, who is an excellent and funny hostess. Rooms were beautifully decorated and spacious. Very comfortable beds. Both rooms had views of Loch Fyne. We were treated daily to a fantastic breakfast in the drawing room, as the breakfast room was busy. This also is a beautiful room. Cannot recommend Thistle House highly enough! We would most certainly return!

I have stayed at The Thistle Guest House before and was so impressed I visited again last weekend...what can I say that has not already been said about this outstanding property and the excellence of it's hosts....nothing...go and experience The Thistle for yourself, you won't be dissapointed it is a haven of comfort and care, it has the most stunning views, the food is exceptional and it is ideally located.

You will leave feeling refreshed and very special, you will take away fabulous memories and a little part of you will wish you had stayed a bit longer

Room Tip: all the rooms enjoy fabulous views, if you want a really special room book the Campbell (complete with a four poster bed...it's on the top floor but worth the climb)

Just back from a few days stay at this lovely guest house, Jennifer and her team were fantastic, as were all the locals we met. This was our first time in a B&B and didn't really know what to expect but after staying in this one would stay in one again instead of Hotels as the personal touches were really appreciated, although not all B&B's may be as perfect as this one, we may just have been spoiled by this one! Would definetly recommend this to anyone!

Will be back!

My wife, Erin, and I were married at the Thistle House in June of this year. We actually eloped to Scotland from the United States, but that's a whole other story! As you can imagine, there are many details that must be attended to when planning a wedding so far from home and Jennifer was an absolute Godsend in this regard! But first a little about our stay for those of you who may not be planning on a wedding of your own at Thistle House . . . (but I would highly recommend it!)

When Erin and I arrived we were greeted warmly and with a sincerity that bespoke Jennifer and her husband, Alastair's, true fondness of their guests (both met as well as unmet) and of their vocation at the Thistle House. Although Alastair is involved in the running of the Thistle House, our interaction was mostly with Jennifer and that's what the bulk of this review will reflect.

Easy to talk to and quick to enjoy a laugh, Jennifer has the un-learnable knack of asking questions and drawing out her guests but never seeming to pry or push. It's truly an ingrained ability--you either have it or you don't, and Jennifer has it. It was always a pleasure to speak with her.

The building and its decoration were exemplary. From the comfortable sitting area in the lounge to the rich tartan rug on the stairs to the period wall treatments, it immediately felt like home. Jennifer personally escorted us up to our room (the Campbell room) which was beautiful and quite spacious. A four poster bed with a very comfortable mattress as well as high-end sheets, comforters, and pillows greeted us. The en-suite featured a spotless (and I do mean spotless!) tub and shower with a nice skylight to allow additional daylight, huge and very soft towels, as well as complimentary toiletries. A window overlooking Loch Fyne with two comfortable chairs made for a nice sitting area for tea or coffee in the afternoon (yes, even newlyweds can have a quiet moment in the afternoon!).

Many thoughtful touches were distributed around the room as well: a hot water-maker with plenty of tea and coffee with sugar, creamer, etc. lay on a tray, a well thought-out book featuring area attractions and complimentary services provided by the Thistle House, a nice wardrobe closet for our clothes, disposable bags for packing dirty shoes. If there was anything we needed either Jennifer or Peter (Peter is in the employ of Jennifer and does a fantastic job!) made it happen in a snap!

The grounds were well-maintained. Driver's are politely requested to park to the side of the main building so as to maintain the view of the loch-- nice touch! Slightly raised from the road, the house commands a respectable view of the loch and of Inveraray almost directly across.

Breakfast was as close to gourmet as one can find without breaking the bank. Smoked salmon fresh-caught from Loch Fyne, home made yogurt and preserves, piping hot teas and excellent coffees, fresh bread, and of course a full Scottish breakfast complete with blood pudding and haggis and grilled tomato if you wish. Just wonderful!

We actually stayed for two nights: the night before our wedding and the night of our wedding but we wish it was more. As Erin and I were so far from home we looked to Jennifer for quite a bit of help and guidance and did she ever help us! Jennifer worked behind the scenes helping to arrange the Registrar (thank you Margaret!), suggesting a good photographer (Derek Prescott--great job!!), finding us a second witness (thanks Jill!), and just overall going above and beyond our expectations in every regard before we even arrived in Scotland and continued this level of attention until we left. Jennifer, we couldn't have done it with out you!

Erin and I could have gotten married anywhere in Scotland but the stars aligned and brought us to Jennifer's home--serendipity at its finest; there was no way we could have intentionally planned such a memorable stay. We feel like we've made real friends at the Thistle House and can only hope they're still doing the same wonderful job in 5 years when we come back to celebrate our anniversary.

Thank you Jennifer (and everyone else), for everything. We will never forget you . . . but we will see you again on our 5th anniversary!!

Erin and Andrew

Room Tip: Can only speak for the Campbell room, but it's roomy, well-appointed, and overlooks the loch. I would stay there again!
