“A great find.”

We were looking for somewhere to stay near Glenclova for a friend's 50th at the Glenclova hotel. The hotel was full and we found this B&B as an alternative. Very friendly, great room and good breakfasts.

Our stay at purgavie farm was as good as staying in a four star hotel or better, and we have stayed in plenty. Mrs Clark was really friendly and could not do enough to help you. She welcomed our 2 dogs in and showed me where I could walk them.
The room was excellent really clean and the shower was great and lovely big soft towels lots of tea, coffee and extras to make you at home.
The breakfast was everything you would want and you can choose the time you want it and freshly cooked for you.
This was a lovely peaceful location. One not to be missed.

A recent visitor to Purgavie wrote that the evening meal was "pricey" Mrs. Clark makes an excellent three course dinner plus coffee and only charges £16. All her ingredients are sourced as locally as possible and is all made on the premises (no packets or tins) and fresh.
Even if the visitor had driven into Kirriemuir to one of the local Inns he/she wouldn't have had anything as good as Mrs. Clark's and certainly not for her price. Of course, another thing is that Mrs.Clark uses linen table cloths and napkins, crystal glasses and nice china. Burger King use cardboard cups and fingers!!!

Room Tip: All the rooms are to be recommended.

We have stayed at Purgavie for a good few years and whether its been for a couple of nights B&B or to stay in Tipperwhig log cabin, we have always felt at home, relaxed and looked after. Purgavie is outstanding for its views and to see wildlife around the fields. Even on less sunny days the scenery is breathtaking. There is so much to do in the area, we can never fit it all in in a couple of days. Moira and Dave's welcome is lovely and nothing is too much trouble to ensure our stay was good.

The B&B facilities are excellent, the rooms are immaculate and there are always plenty of white fluffy towels and pamper products. The wee hospitality treats are lovely, with shortbread, special coffees and teas......and even juice drink sachets!!

On our last trip we stayed 5 nights B&B and had everything we needed. Moira's breakfasts are second to none.....her scrambled egg is to die for, her poached eggs are perfect and we certainly had our fill every morning. We stayed this time with our adult children using the other rooms, so it was definitely a 'take over'...but it was just perfect and Moira allowed us to come and go as we pleased. When our pet was unwell she immediately contacted her local vet and got us a quick appointment. She even held breakfast back and served it later to accommodate us. Moira's home cooked evening meals are a real Scottish treat and excellent value compared to eating a 3 course meal in a restaurant.

As long as Purgavie does B&B I think we will always have to have a visit here at least once a year......as I said it's home from home.

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent facilities and very spacious. We particularly like the Glen Clova room as it...

Stayed a couple of nights as we travelled back home from the highlands. Moira is an attentive and helpful host. The accommodation, on a working farm, is of good standard providing for a relaxing time amid rolling hills. Breakfast is good with plenty of choice. We enjoyed two evening meals with good home cooking - though somewhat pricey. We enjoyed the opportunity to talk with other residents round the single table. Some may prefer having their own tables but not a problem for us and typical of that provided on working farms. Lots of history of the farm and the area that Moira shares freely.

Purgavie is a working farm. The barn roof is in disrepair. Rabbits sneak through the hedgerows. Acres of carrots and barley push through the soil into the spring sunshine. Sheep graze on the hillside to the east of the house.
From the windows of the upstairs rooms the farmland rolls away towards hills caught by light as if in a Constable painting. It is a place which is difficult to leave. And it is made more so by the genuine good nature of the people who live there.
Purgavie is owned and run by Moira Clark, a delightful woman with a keen sense of irony and a lifelong knowledge of the district. Seek advice from her on any topic from where to eat (the pub in Aylth is very good) to the history of Glamis and Kirriemuir. Moira lives life. And knocks up a superb breakfast comprised of local ingredients.
Additionally, Purgavie is an easy drive to Carnoustie but there are local golf courses that are good value. Ask Moira which ones. As well as farming, she knows golf. Her father was vice captain at Carnoustie!

Just enjoyed 3 nights in the Scandinavian style lodge. Very clean and everything you good possibly need after a hard day out on the hill. Not the first time I have been and certainly will not be the last. Thanks Moira. Regards Harry
