“Another lovely weekend stay”
Reviewed April 27, 2010

Just returned from another lovely weekend break at the Braemar Lodge.
We stayed this time in one of the log cabins but have stayed many times previously in the main lodge.
Great food, great location and great hospitality from the owners.
We have booked again for September like many of the other guest some of which were booking 12 months ahead so as not to be disappointed.

Just back from a long w'end in Braemar Lodge Hotel. My partner and I had a fantastic time in what is a beautiful shooting lodge in a stunning setting.
We stayed in the hotel itself with its cosy bar, roaring log fire and more malt whiskys than I have ever seen! It was the perfect place to relax and unwind after a day on the slopes.
The friendly family atmosphere, great food (esp. the venison!) and quality of our room (we even had a four poster bed) certainly leaves it an easy decision when thinking about our next break.

Would recommend to anybody.

PS the owners even helped pull our car out of the snow twice - oops!

Stayed in one of the log cabins which was spacious clean and had every thing in it we required. We ate in the resturant most nights which was great value for exelent food. When in Braemar again will definetly be returning to braemar lodge.

Stayed in the log cabins which are in the hotel grounds. Very clean and spacious but terribly cold. Electricity by coin meter only (only takes £1 coins!!). You need at least £15 per day to keep the cabin warm and to keep the fridge/hot water working. I am sure there is no mention of this extra cost on the website. Once bath filled, had to wait at least an hour before there was enough hot water for another one - not good after a day skiing when 6 of you want a soak!
The above could be ignored given the relatively good value for money during peak ski season if it weren't for the rudeness of the owners. Absolutely no notion of customer service whatsoever. Treated us like second rate guests - perhaps because we were staying in the cabins rather than the hotel? When we wandered into the hotel lobby (which was invariably kept in darkness with the doors locked) we were made to feel as though we were intruding and a menu thrust into our hands. Basically - you cant have a drink in the hotel - you can only have a full meal. No attempt made by either owner to be friendly whatsoever - just generally made you feel uncomfortable. The husband was particularly rude on our last day when we picked up some left luggage 15 mins later that we had said we would. He virtually through us out without letting us use the toilets as we had ruined hhis plans for the afternoon by being slightly late.
Not a clue how to generate repeat visits. A real shame as a good location but there are plenty of other hotels in Braemar to try and we will not be going back.

We stayed here one Easter and regretted it. Braemar is a fabulous place. This hotel was dark cold and shabby. With deep snow outside most of the heating was not on! The hosts seememed suprised when I asked if some porridge was possible for breakfast- they din't have any. there was a log fire in the lounge but it was freezing with no other heaing and sign asking you not to taqke your chair nearee the fire. Scotland can offer better.

Been there for so many years, I can't remember. Have been alone, with family and with just the wife. We go for the relaxing pace, friendly down-to-earth atmosphere, old fashioned ambiance - and all at reasonable prices. All this combines to make everyone who stays feel like one of the family. The food is really good for such a small hotel. Dinner is best value in Braemar itself and the breakfasts legendary. Many thanks and keep it up!

Very rude managers of hotel. I'de paid 75.00 pound for a double room and also 13.00 for a bunkhouse room for my friend. made to feel very unwelcome when we arrived by bikes. asked the son of manager if we could leave our bikes undercover as there was a severe weather warning and it was pouring of rain. he seemed totally put out by this and only when I insisted did he let us put them in a shed where they keep the wood which he was worried that might be moved. My friend then went to the bar in hotel where he asked for a pint of beer to which the same guy said he couldnt have one as he wasnt a guest as he was staying in the bunkhouse, not the hotel. This was sorted out when i appeared and said ide paid 75.00 for a double room. I was then approached rudely in the hotel by a man who said to me "who are you"? i replied i was a hotel guest which seemed to appease him. Ten minutes later the same man came up to me in the drying clothes area and asked who i was again. By now i thought i was on some wind up tv show. I replied ide just met him and was a hotel guest to which he replied that you can never be too careful knowing who people are!!
The hotel was also very noisy at night, overpriced and without any doubt, for my friend and myself the worst customer service we have ever experienced in a guest house or hotel. Go at your own peril..
