Owner description: Mar Lodge Estate occupies nearly 7% of the Cairngorms National Park, covers some of the most remote and scenic wild land in Scotland, including four of the five highest mountains in the UK. Within its boundaries are fine examples of classic features of a Highland landscape: remnants of the ancient Caledonian pine forest, heather moorland, juniper scrub and a part of the high Cairngorm plateau. Fifteen of the Trust's 46 Munros can be found in the Cairngorms around Mar Lodge. The estate is recognised as one of the most important nature conservation landscapes in the British Isles: over 40% of the estate is covered by national and international nature conservation designations.

Excellent walking and mountain biking paths give good access to the southern Cairngorms. I do have a slight objection to being charged to use the Linn of Dee car park though!

An excellent country venue for the wedding, superb weather. Plan ahead and organise a taxi or car share though as it is off the beaten track and there isnt readily available transfer to Braemar.

Went on an evening walk with head stalker and one of his deputies. Learnt a lot about deer management on the estate. Didn't learn much about other flora and fauna. Didn't help that we were led to top of hills when deer were clearly all in valley eating new grass. Stalkers obviously felt they needed to provide some drama by trying to persuade us to crawl through the heather. We declined, having seen loads of deer much closer in the valley throughout the day.
