The Invercauld Arms Hotel
Ranked #3 of 3 Hotels in Braemar
Reviewed August 5, 2014

A typical "coach party" hotel. nothing really wrong, just the usual story ;" you get what you pay for" the hotel is very old fashioned, And although quite a bit of renovation has taken place recently, still needs a lot more. The more expensive rooms are excellent with 4 poster beds and en suite bathroom with bath and walk-in shower. The dining room is a little old fashioned and somewhat impersonal but this is countered by the efficiency and friendliness of all the staff. however the meals leave quite a bit to be desired- do not look for gourmet food!! you most certainly won't find it. eg. chefs special-- cottage pie! beef stew! chicken curry!?! a different choice? each evening. Porterage did not seem to be available so getting your luggage from car to room can be a bit of a struggle. the bar is modern and well stocked and the bar food seems to be superior to the dining room. Although most of the staff seem to be foreign they are all very pleasant and helpful. Braemar is a wonderful centre for walking and touring by car. Overall i would stay again at the Invercauld Arms.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front are larger but ,due to the proximity of the main road, are noisier

Thank you for taking the time to post a review. Whilst there are still some area of the hotel to be refurbished, the restaurant has been refurbished in the last year and is not old fashioned, however it was nice to read that you found the staff to be excellent and you would stay here again. Hope to see you in the not so distant future.

We recently stayed at this hotel as part of a shearings holiday.
We arrived late (8pm) but this was not a issue to the hotel they arranged for our luggage to be dropped off at the door of our rooms and a hot meal was waiting for us.

The rooms we stayed in was room 2 and 9. They were both spacious and well presented with room 2 being classed as a superiour room and had little extras like a larger TV, toileteries and short bread as well as all other usual coffee tea making facilities, hair dryer and tissues.
Room 2 is accessable through the dinning room but no smells or noised can be heard in this room from the kitchen or dinning area it was very quite.
Wifi in room 2 is unavailable as well as the dining area but readily available in the reception area and outside.

The bed was very comfortable and bedding was clean and fresh.

The meals served were a selection of three choices including a vegeterian option. The food was for some of our party a little on the small size portions but was hot and well presented and if you wanted more veg, bread rolls or dessert they were more than happy for you to have this. The waiters were friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

Breakfast was a cooked breakfast with a selection of cereal toast, preserves and yougart. The menu did say fresh fruit but when I asked they didnt have any available.

The lounge areas have ample seating including the bar and reception area.

The outside benches were plentyful and well used when we stayed as we had a mini heatwave.

Access to shops from this hotel is within walking distance and there is some very nice walks too.

Overall, I would be more than happy to stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: Certain areas of the hotel are unable to access wifi but it is freely available in the reception are...

I've just returned from this hotel with my wife and another couple. It was a last minute booking with Shearings and we really enjoyed it. The hotel was really clean and tidy, as was our room. The food was excellent and good portions and the waiters all mucked in so our food wasn't cold when we got it. All in all, I couldn't fault this hotel or the staff. The only downside to the holiday was the price of the beer. It's a lot more than I'm used to paying but a couple of the people we got talking to said that's the price in a lot of the Bay hotels. Apart from that, an excellent holiday

we booked this place as a last minute booking for 4 nights, although the room was dated it was nice, it was clean and tidy, the food was very nice, wholesome and tasty, the waiters were excellent and everyone got involved in getting your dinner piping hot, The General Manager also got her hands dirty, she helped serve just as much as the waiters, even tho the G.M. was due to go home she still spent another hour sorting out ? I spoke to her and she was so helpful, would stop there again, Thank you so much all of the Staff at the Invercauld Hotel

We took the gold bus from Glasgow to Aberdeen then the stagecoach to Braemar for this break , the hotel was very nice and our room very clean and comfortable the meals were also very good and served by waiters who served us fast with no waiting time . This is a great location for any outdoor pursuits etc --- walking cycling or for just a quiet chill out break . We had a great weekend would urge fellow travellers to try it out .

Room Tip: Rooms at the side of hotel have good views!

With this hotel I think you get what you pay for. Don't expect five star service but for value for money it cannot be beaten. The food was cooked well, the menu somewhat unexciting, portion size a bit small, service overall good although occasionally language was a problem (I don't mean Scots either) due to foreign staff. Some of the rooms have been refurbished others still need work, particularly the bathrooms. Having said that although a bit tired our room was spotlessly clean and the bed very comfortable .This building is 18th century and has the distinction of being on the spot of the raising of the Standard of the Jacobite revolution in 1715.
