“Nice comfortable hotel”
Reviewed August 6, 2011

We stayed for four nights with a Shearings tour and booked a superior room which was a good size, fairly recently refurbished, clean and had a nice view. The only problem was when we got into bed! As soon as we lay down we could hear a constant noise which sounded like a pump or a fan, and this went on all night (we were close to the back of the kitchen). Needless to say we didn't get very much sleep and reported it to reception in the morning. The lady on reception said she would check out the situation and make sure the kitchen staff turned off the fans when they closed the kitchen.

The next night we went into the room to check the noise after the kitchen staff had left but it was still there so the duty receptionist went to see what he could do. Unfortunately the culprit was a cooler fan for the freezer which he obviously couldn't turn off, so we asked to be moved to another room. The young man was very helpful but could only offer us a standard room as the hotel was almost full.

Anyway, the room was fine - not as nice as the superior room but we managed to get a good night's sleep which was the main thing.

The hotel lounges have been refurbished recently and are nice and comfortable, the bar is very cosy and has a good atmosphere.

The food was OK but nothing to shout about.

All in all we enjoyed the stay and loved the village of Braemar and the surrounding area.

Room Tip: Try to avoid the ground floor rooms 2 and 3, next to the kitchen

Hotel situated on the edge of the small village with just a short walk to the village shops. All Staff totally committed to making sure your stay is a good one. A special pat on the back for the catering staff - food was excellent and service matched it too. We do not normally go back to the same Hotel/Resort for a second time - but we will probably make an exception with The Invercauld Arms. Plenty of lovely places to drive to (coach or own car) with a bus service to Aberdeen if needed. Very well managed hotel.

Room Tip: Room 70 - excellent view across green fields to Braemar Castle.

Thank you very much for your compliments boxcarwreham:

We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. I passed your comments to the kitchen and restaurant staff and they were very happy. Here at the Invercauld we are all committed to ensure that our clients enjoy themselves. And I have to agree with you that the views from room 70 are really nice so I think that it’s worth it to pay that little extra to enjoy the fantastic scenery.

We stayed here for three nights after 4 not particularly good nights at the Shearings Hotel in Pitlochry (Pitlochry Hydro). The room was fine and clean although quite dark as the light source came from one window in an alcove. The food was only okay - nothing special at all. The views were really nice, with hills, trees, birds, deer and rabbits to be seen from the window of the bedroom. The Scottish entertainer was good and did a mixture of Scottish songs, 50's and 60's songs and was quite funny. The receptionist was quite sour faced and could have made more of an effort. Otherwise, it was fine.

Room Tip: Lovely views

Have visited Invercauld Arms Hotel twice in the last nine weeks, hotel was found to be ideally situated. Carlos and his team are very friendly and helpful. Beautiful views from the dining room. Good choice of food and always served very hot, ice cream sweets highly recommended.

The bedrooms could do with a little TLC, but would have thought that some of the problems have been caused by some guests not respecting furniture which does not belong to them and putting hot drinks etc. onto polished wood and splashing drinks up the walls.

Always plenty of hot water for either bath or shower, but, would recommend an up graded room for additional comfort.

Would certainly recommend this hotel for anyone wanting to visit Royal Deeside, only 9 miles from Balmoral.

Room Tip: Premier room to die for

Dear Lagonda:
It’s always nice to see that our clients are coming back regularly to visit us. There are lots to do in the area if you like an active weekend but Braemar is also a nice location if you like just to relax and chill out. There is an on-going refurbish program in place. We refurbished the public areas and some of the bedrooms last winter and there is an on-going refurbishment plan in place to do the entire hotel.

Head north on the A93 from Perth and Blairgowrie, continue through the glorious Glenshee and past the ski centre at the summit, then make the lovely descent down Glen Cluny to Braemar, 1000 feet up in the heart of the Cairngorm Mountains. On the far edge of the village, still on the A93, is the Invercauld Arms, a lovely old building in Scottish baronial style.
The hotel is used mainly for Shearings coach holidays, but independent travellers are made welcome (book through the Shearings website). Prices are very reasonable, usually on a half board basis for a three night weekend or a four night Monday to Friday.
We had a standard room, at the side with a great view. It was not huge but it was fine for us, very clean and comfortable. Food was very good indeed.
There were some quirks:-
a tiny lift; a shower that XL people would find rather snug; and only two 13 amp sockets in our room, both inconveniently located for the kettle which was supplied. The TV was old and offered just five channels, but this will presumably change soon when the digital switchover is complete.
Superior rooms are available at a supplement.
But in Braemar you will not want to spend a lot of time in your hotel room anyway. Whether you want to amble through the village, take a car tour around the mountains or along to Balmoral (about ten miles away), or tackle a strenuous mountain walk, Braemar is the ideal location.
Deeside's beauty is well known already; but don't overlook the valley of the Don, a short drive over a fascinating mountain road. There you will find Corgarff Castle, and also Kildrummy Castle - and just a few hundred yards along is Kildrummy Castle Gardens, one of the regions best kept secrets: go and see for yourself!

We will definitely be back!

Room Tip: If you like space, try a superior room
