Where do you start when talking about perfection, We have been staying with the Harrisons since the hotel was a small family run (i wanted to say ordinary, but this hotel has never been ordinary) Hotel, overlooking Loch Ewe in North West Scotland. On the first visit I sampled some of the finest food I had ever tasted courtesy of the Chef John Moir. Front of House was run by the rest of the Family, Mhari, Liz, Margaret and Peter. The Hotel Today has changed, it is now a superb luxury hotel furnished with Antiques, cosy chairs, warm fires and the all encompassing wish for perfection from the family, it is still run by the same people, John is still Cooking some of the best food in Scotland, if not the world and after the meal how many other hotels can supply you with a bouncy Labrador (Scampi) to encourage you to go for a stroll along the river- If you do nothing else in Scotland visit this Hotel, you will not be dissapointed and you will have a life long memory of near perfection- be careful its addictive, if you visit once you will rarely be satisfied with lesser hotels and will return time after time, we have just booked again!

As a lover of a particular part of the western highlands of Scotland my visits have been frequent over the years. They somehow always felt a little incomplete until I made a remarkable discovery “The Pool House Hotel”. Located in the village of Poolewe, which nestles quietly on the shores of Loch Ewe, this amazing hotel is an example of what all others should strive to achieve. I love staying at this family establishment run by Peter and Margaret Harrison along with daughters Liz and Val who cater to their guests every need. The Chef John Moir, also a family member is a true credit to his profession, his Loch Ewe scallops are to die for. The hotel originally a private house has been lovingly restored by the family and the suites are fabulous (over the years I’ve stayed in all of them). The warmth and friendliness the family extends to their guests is truly outstanding. The area is one of the most beautiful in Western Europe, completely natural and un-spoilt offering an unlimited number of activities from walking to hiking, climbing, sailing or just relaxing. I highly recommend anyone visiting the highlands especially for the first time complete their experience and treat themselves to The Pool House Hotel.

Having traveled the world I can honestly say the Poolhouse Hotel is my favorite place to stay. Peter and Margaret along with Liz, Mhari, John and Scampi the dog provide such a welcome that I have come to feel like an old friend. The accommodations are luxurious with beautiful views over the loch. The cuisine created by “Chez John” is imaginative and truly outstanding and is complimented by the contents of Peter’s well-stocked cellar. To dine in the luxury of the North By Northwest restaurant and enjoy the ever-changing view over Loch Ewe and the sunsets is a perfect way to end the day. Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty there is something for everyone whether it be energetic or relaxing. The walking in the area is fantastic leaving me with many wonderful memories spent in the company of “Scampi”. The downside for me is when I have to leave not just “The Poolhouse” but leave behind what can only be described as an experience.

Go here for relaxing and good food - it's fantastic! The drive up to Poolewe is a long one but worth it! Peter and family make you feel so welcome, the rooms are fabulous, food fantastic, and the atmosphere relaxed! We unwound wonderfully! Reading books by the fire was fabulous! If you want to be active you can be because the scenery around is outstanding.
Can't recommend this place enough!

We first went to the Pool House in August last year, then spent Christmas last year there, and have booked for this New Year ... we love it! Peter and his family (including dog, called Scampi) make you feel like an old friend. Food and drink are wonderful, nothing's too much trouble, bedrooms and bathrooms are uniquely furnished, great views over the loch, wonderful walks (with Scampi!) around and about. Two problems ... number one, it's too far from where we live, and number two, as they only have five rooms, if too many people hear about it we'll never get in again! Otherwise, faultless.
