“Outstanding!!!”
Reviewed June 5, 2014 for a stay in June 2014

What an amazing cottage! Evelyn and Andrew made us feel so welcome even had lots of lovely toys for our 19 month old to play with, which kept he occupid for hours. The cottage is situated close to all the great attractions yet far enough away to be a tranquil and relaxing.

We will be back over and over again.

“Smarhus Cottage is one of the best cottages we have stayed in, if not THE best.”
Reviewed May 24, 2014 for a stay in May 2014

It was a good start to be welcomed by Evelyn and Andrew personally as soon as we arrived, and it got better as Andrew showed us around and we discovered the very generous 'welcome basket'. The property itself was very comprehensively stocked with every utensil and appliance one could need, and was beautifully clean and tidy throughout. Individual room temperatures were controlled by wall mounted thermostats which we could adjust to our own liking. The switch for the heated bathroom towel rail was elusive but Andrew soon explained where to locate it! We chose the location specifically for its proximity to the Falkirk Wheel, which is a must for anyone interested in boats, canals and engineering in general. Also The Kelpies in the new Helix Park at Falkirk are well worth a visit. Further afield we were in travelling distance of Stirling and The Trossachs to the North, and Peebles, Selkirk, etc. to the South. Whilst located in quiet and peaceful countryside, provisions could be obtained a few minutes drive away in Bathgate or Armadale. All in all we had an excellent stay at Smarhus Cottage - even the weather was good!

“Almost hate to share this gem...”
Reviewed March 16, 2014 for a stay in March 2014

This is a hidden gem. We have stayed several times while visiting family in the area. It is warm and cozy. It is quite new yet already updated.bit is very well maintained. The kitchen is great. We had great weather and would love to use the deck but it has not yet been available on our 3 visits. We had deer in the garden one morning just outside the living room window. Lovely rural location yet close to shops and train and fight between the major routes. We will be back and would happily recommend.

We received a warm welcome from Andrew and Evelyn and appreciated the complimentary basket of goodies. We spent one week in this spotless, modern cottage with our toddler and baby. Evelyn and Andrew thought of and provided everything we needed, including travel cot, baby bath, changing mat and high chair. The location is perfect for visiting Edinburgh, Glasgow and Stirling but there's a basket full of tourist info in the cottage to fill you in on what's around. We'll definitely be back. A wee gem of a place!

“A lovely, welcoming, gorgeous holiday home.”
Reviewed February 11, 2014 for a stay in February 2014

We received a wonderful welcome at Smarhus Cottage from Andrew and Evelyn. They had added many thoughtful touches to their beautiful cottage. It is peaceful, cosy, spotless and very comfortable indeed. It is very handy for visiting Edinburgh and Glasgow. We have already booked again. We loved it here!

“Perfect home from home”
Reviewed October 31, 2013 for a stay in September 2013

We received a lovely warm welcome from Andrew and Evelyn. They were really helpful and took time to show us around the cottage, explaining where to find everything and how to operate things which meant we settled in very quickly. They have thought of everything with lovely little touches that make a difference. The property is absolutely spotless and is a real credit to them - the photos on the website don't do it justice. It's set in a lovely peaceful location and we were delighted to see deer in the grounds in the morning and evening much to the excitement of our little boy! Just wish we could have stayed longer but hope to return again.
