“Lovely New years eve meal”
Reviewed January 10, 2013

Booked a table for new year with the family. Food was lovely and staff couldn't have been more helpful. We ended up staying long past the bells as the kids were occupied by a play area and we enjoyed the bagpipes. Will defiantly be back.

“Christmas let down”
Reviewed December 28, 2012

After having a very busy year my husband and i decided to hand over the stress and preparation of Christmas dinner to 'the professionals' we went with family and friends to Oscars and were pleasantly surprised on arrival to find a very nice restaurant, with smart up to date decor and friendly ambience. As we had 3 under 10's it was great to find a jungle gym onsite which kept the kids amused between courses. Unfortunately the food didn't match. I had the ham hough terrine, the actual terrine was very tasty if really really cold and the apple chutney had no chutney kick to it, it tasted like stewed apple!! everything was freezing cold which definately wasn't adding anything to the enjoyment of the starter. I had chicken bullotine for main, which is chicken/blackpudding/smoked bacon, which consisted of 2 little rolls of chicken breast with a middle of blackpudding, unsure what happened to the bacon!! they looked like some kind of testicles from a bush tucker trial. There was a wee ensemble of veg in half a roasted red pepper which was tasty enough and 4 brussel sprouts which were so hard you couldn't cut them, i ate one but could barely chew it, it felt like i'd eaten a raw cabbage!!! the tiny wee drop potatoes and the sauce was very nice!!. I had sticky toffee brandy basket for dessert and it WAS delicious but for £40 a head didn't really make up for the rest. Our table was booked for 1pm after the desserts the waitress came to ask if we wanted teas or coffees but we'd need to move to the bar as our table had to be ready for a 3pm sitting!!! Wasn't impressed. Won't be back at Oscars in a hurry definately not for Christmas dinner....

“Decent local food”
Reviewed December 28, 2012

Visited as we're staying in the region, based on Trip Advisor reviews. Food was tasty and reasonable portions. Atmosphere was a bit lacking - slow night after Xmas I expect. Overall ok.
