“Beautiful house on a magical island!”

Our party traveled up to Raasay in May 2012 for a family birthday celebration, and we all loved the large, spacious, and beautiful house. It is a former manse that has been sympathetically restored to a very high standard, with lovely furnishing and fittings.

With its large kitchen and Aga, we enjoyed some delicious meals, whilst the bedrooms were very comfortable with good-quality beds and bedding and plenty of towels. The bathrooms were also large, and one of them also had a powerful shower. The dining room and living rooms were beautifully furnished, roomy, and equipped with 2 large fireplaces. Throughout our visit the house was lovely and warm

The games room next to the house, with its ping pong table and drum kit, was great fun, with no neighbours to disturb! The tennis court was beautifully kept and we loved playing in it, and the tree house in the garden was a great adventure for the youngest member of the family.

The location is very private with beautiful surroundings and panoramic views to Skye. The only building nearby is the church, with services every second Sunday.

The island is an ideal place to go hillwalking and cycling; Dun Caan is a fairly easy walk, affording expansive views of Skye and Applecross. There are many paths, and one day we drove to the end of Callum's Road and walked across to the island of Eilean Fladday at low tide. On another day we walked from North Fearns up to Hallaig, an old crofting settlement which now only consists of ruined houses, and a herd of deer were seen close up. Two hours were also spent kayaking on Loch a' Mhuilinn which is 10 minute walk from the Manse.

The owner and housekeeper were friendly, very helpful, and knowledgeable about the island.

In conclusion, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend the Old Free Church Manse to anyone who wants a luxury self-catering holiday at a reasonable price, with wonderful views and set in a secluded island location.

The Old Manse is the perfect rural holiday retreat - seclusion, spectacular views and first class accommodation. Can't be faulted on any level and i would recommend it to anyone.
