We've stayed in many holiday rentals all over the UK and Europe and this is one of the best. It had everything and more. It is a good size for 6 adults (although no more than 2 in the kitchen at one time) and has everything you need. Irene even provides waterproof clothes and shoes! Its location is perfect - near the ferry terminal, easy to find, walking distance from the Tarbert shops and hotels, and wonderful view. It was marvellous during the good weather and very comfortable during the brief spells of wet weather. It is a brilliant base from which to discover a wonderful Island.
Lovely spacious home from home - we especially loved the view from the consevatory and decking, the cosy sitting room and the constant hot water! We much appreciated the extra wee touches such as outdoor jackets to use, games, maps and books and the owner's help in ensuring we had basic food supplies on the day we arrived. Oh! and Irene also arranged a great week of weather! Our Chinese contingent fell totally in love with the island.
Great location for exploring both Harris and Lewis.
Kinnoull is set high on a cliff overlooking the ferry landing, Loch Tarbert and, in the distance, the Isle of Skye. The balcony has seats and tables perfect for morning coffee and an evenings relaxation. The house is comfortable and warm and has a conservatory also overlooking the Loch if the weather isn't good enough for the balcony.
Tarbert is the perfect place for visiting all the beauties of both Harris and Lewis. There are shops in Tarbert which supply all you need but if you want to do a big shop Stornoway has Tesco and the Cooperative, Tesco, at least, make home deliveries. The golden road is not far and is a must see, the bays along the road are worth turning into to see seal colonies. Skoon Art Cafe is a lovely place and has some stunning artwork as well as supplying a very good coffee.
The garden at Kinnoull is lovely for dogs but is very steep and probably not suitable for young children and definitely not for people with mobility problems.
All in all a wonderful place to stay.
Oh wow, where do I start !
What a fantastic stay we had ,me, my husband and Wallace our dog we were at Harris for work and pleasure ( hubby working ,me pleasure ) so we stayed at kinnoul , first impression ,the view from the conservatory windows over harbour and out to sea was amazing, the house itself was full to bursting point with everything you could possibly need from wellies, coats, hats, scarfs, dishwashing, washing powder, kites, games, books, dvds, jigsaws to hot water bottles or anything at all you'd forgotten was there to use .
A real home from home feel about kinnoul, cosy, warm and spotlessly clean, coal fire was fab at night with a wee gin and such a comfy bed didn't want to get out of it ,till you open curtains and see the sunrise over the harbour, very quiet at night a real gem of a place, plenty room with a huge lounge.
Irene the owner of kinnoul, i had a fantastic time with her ,the day my husband was working she took me round the south of Harris , the beaches wow something else then down to St Clements Church ,we even seen 3 otters quite casually crossing what I think is called the golden road .(have to be on it to appreciate it ). We visited the Harris distillery for a excellent wee tour round and a bottle of gin off course !
I could go on and on about what a fantastic time at kinnoul .
it's better felt than telt though ( as we say )
Thank you so much Irene for having us and Wallace to stay in your home from home at kinnoul
We will be back
Just back home after spending a wonderful week with friends (and dogs) at Kinnoull. What a comfortable, cosy house this is! Beautifully situated with a picture postcard view of the harbour. It has been kitted out with everything that you could possibly need, including dvds books and games for a rainy day. Or you could simply sit in the conservatory and be mesmerised by the view- binoculars and a telescope thoughtfully provided.
There's off street parking and the garden is enclosed, so it's child and dog friendly.
Lots of things to do on Harris, glorious beach walking, galleries to browse, cafes to sample, distillery to visit... But it was lovely to come home to Kinnoull after a day out, it felt like home.
We stayed in kinnoull for 1 week in July with our 3 kids. The house is centrally located and it is clear that a lot of thought has gone into making sure there is everything you need. The house is well equipped with great views over the harbour and out to Skye, with off street parking, we hope to visit again in the future. Excellent accommodation, I would have given it 5 stars if it had wifi, but certainly has everything else.
